TO THE LEFT, TO THE LEFT

Good evening from Regina everyone. 'Little Man' Brent is resting and having a stable day (he's still in critical condition). Brent is on the respirator at 25% oxygen level. His hemoglobin is 100 (thumbs up). Brently's body has been through alot and he needs time to heal.

A cool thing happened today that could earn Brent a new nickname....Cool hand Brent. Mom and Dad were in the room with their son. Brent's eyes were closed, but he was being responsive. Carolyn (Cary) was leaning over on Brent's left side and then Dad says, 'Brent, if you lift your hand a little bit to the left you can get your mom'. Then, Scot said to Brent, 'I bet you can't get Mom' and slowly Brent tried to lift his left hand to touch his Mom's face. Brent is having responsive moments.

Pray for healing of the abdomen...
Pray for Brent to breathe on his own......
Pray for strength for Scot and Carolyn (pray for protection from colds etc)....
Pray for the Regina General Medical staff....

Keep hoping.Keep loving.Keep praying.....

  1. So glad to hear this encouraging news! And so glad to hear that Scot is still keeping his sense of humour. I enjoyed seeing Scot and Carolyn with Brent and Katie last May - they really seemed to enjoy one another's company!
    You all remain in our family's prayers, dear Peterson family!

  10. Scott and Carolyn,

    You do not know me but I am a good friend of Joyce Jurgens. We met back when we were both living in Regina as our husbands attended Depot. We still talk on a regular basis, normally very very long phone calls when our husbands are both at work. We are looking forwards to visiting with them this summer and miss them very much, praying that one day we will be posted in the same community ( we are in Kamloops, BC).
    I have been wanting to comment for a while but feel a little odd in doing so. On one hand I feel like an intruder reading this blog, having never met you and chance of meeting are probably slim. On the other hand I feel as if you are my family, and I cry as I read some of the wonderful and very hard things that you guys are going through. I want you to know that I delight with you in the small improvements that are posted on here, the responsiveness of Brent, what a blessing. And that I cry when he suffers from another setback.
    I just wanted you to know that my husband Martin and I are praying for you all; for complete healing, continue strength for you two as parents, strength for you as a couple, and of course thanks and praise for the miracles that God has already preformed.

    Much love and many hugs sent your way,
    Martin and Rachel Schmidt

  11. "Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; You are Mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, nor shall the flame scorch you. Isaiah 43: 1b, 2

    God Leads Us Along - George A. Young 1903

    In shady, green pastures, so rich and so sweet,
    God leads His dear children along;
    Where the water's cool flow bathes the weary one's feet,
    God leads His dear children along.

    Refrain
    Some through the waters, some through the flood,
    Some through the fire, but all through the blood;
    Some through great sorrow, but God gives a song,
    In the night season and all the day long.

    Sometimes on the mount where the sun shines so bright,
    God leads His dear children along;
    Sometimes in the valley, in darkest of night,
    God leads His dear children along.

    Refrain
    Some through the waters, some through the flood,
    Some through the fire, but all through the blood;
    Some through great sorrow, but God gives a song
    In the night season and all the day long.

    Though sorrows befall us and evils oppose,
    God leads His dear children along;
    Through grace we can conquer, defeat all our foes,
    God leads His dear children along.

    Refrain
    Some through the waters, some through the flood,
    Some through the fire, but all through the blood;
    Some through great sorrow, but God gives a song,
    In the night season and all the day long.

    Away from the mire, and away from the clay,
    God leads His dear children along;
    Away up in glory, eternity's day,
    God leads His dear children along.

    Refrain
    Some through the waters, some through the flood'
    Some through the fire, but all through the blood;
    Some through great sorrow, but God gives a song,
    In the night season and all the day long.

  16. What a fantastic update. I cannot even begin to imagine how much Brent's small gesture meant to Scot and Cary.

    Pastor Rob...your updates are simply awesome. They are short and succinct, but oh so important to those of us that are praying for Brent and his family. Thank you for taking the time to not only support Scot and Cary, but to share their news with all of us.

    Faith, family, friends. These three simple things will continue to help support this family through this journey.

    Rest well. Stay strong. Know that you are not alone.

  18. Being someone who doesn't know you personally, either, I agree and relate to so much of what Martin and Rachel Schmidt said above...and I cried especially over the beauty of this latest post by your pastor!!! Just having that touch from your son, and the playful way in which it came about is a blessing that can't even be explained in words!! I can only imagine how it made you feel!!! I rejoice with you for the gift you received today and pray for more of these moments to come more frequently in the days to come as Brent continues to heal. About 2 weeks ago, I just started getting 'I love you, Mom', from our teen who hadn't told me that in the past 3 years, so I understand the significance that this moment today has for you as a mom! Brent, you have given your parents such a precious gift today!!! What an amazing answer to prayer!!!

    This verse was etched on my heart 9 1/2 years ago when we were beginning our own valley of grief and I want you to know that the verse, and the song that MARohr posted is so true...God DOES give a song, even in the most terrible circumstances and that He truly is the same God...yesterday, today and forever. While our emotional and spiritual battles are still there because of our loss, He walks with us and comforts us through whatever emotion we are experiencing. We still revisit past feelings as they relate to us today in the 10th year of our own grief, but the wound is no longer an open wound, but a scar, healed over. Right now, just as Brent's wounds are fresh and raw, your wounds of grief are, too, BUT, as you see his wounds responding to the healing and getting the healthy tissue and slowly closing the wounds, your open wounds are being healed as well. I am sure that Brent will always have visible scars to some degree that do remind you of all that has taken place, but I want to encourage you to look at these scars with encouragement and a reminder that just as God is healing Brent in the physical, He is also healing each of you in the emotional pain you are feeling. May these scars be a testimony of God's faithfulness and His grace in your lives as you walk forward in faith. May you embrace His healing love and rest in the knowledge that He holds you all in the palm of His hand...yesterday, today, and forever...God bless you all!! Rejoicing with you all tonight!!! Sincerely, Laura Dyck
