Brent Prayer Alert - Urgent!

Brent is in surgery as of 9:50 pm. Please pray!

BRENT PRAYER ALERT.....

Hey everyone..
At 7:05 p.m. Brent started to experience some internal bleeding on the right side of his body. His blood pressure rose to about 136..the medical staff at Regina General were able to stop the bleeding and at this moment are trying to figure the next few steps.

Like always we will release information as soon as the Peterson's let me know. Yet, another dramatic move on Brent on the week that is so critical to remember Katie. Some tests are being done on Brent right now so pray for the wisdom of the medical staff to do what they think necessary. Pray for the Heavenly Father, through the name of Jesus and by the power of His Holy Spirit to protect and heal Brent tonight for this latest episode.

This is stretching Scot and Carolyn (Cary) way beyond their capacity. Please continue to pray for these wonderful parents.

Keep hoping. Keep loving. Keep praying.

We'll keep you posted.............

LITTLE MAN LOOKING GOOD TODAY

Brent is fighting back today in a huge way. After last night's scare with his blood pressure so high and for so long - he settled down. Around 4:30 a.m. his blood pressure began to settle in the mid 120 's. When I arrived in Regina this (Monday, March 30) afternoon to visit with Scot and Carolyn (Cary), I had no expectations of being able to see Brent. What a surprise it was to go in and see Brent after three weeks of waiting. Brent looks great - the color in his face looks awesome and the skin area around the abdomen is healing very nicely.

One of the biggest challenges facing Brent is that of keeping his blood pressure stable. When I was there today it was cool to see his blood pressure between 112 and 120 - what an answer to prayer. Brent was awake for me for awhile and he tried so hard to talk but he's not able yet. I love spending this time with Brent and I quietly prayed as I held his hand. Like his parents and probably you, I am anxious to see him become better.

I read John 17 to Brent today - this is a prayer that Jesus prayed. One of the ideas found in this prayer is that Jesus chose to look at the cross as an opportunity instead of an obstacle to show that God is real. The Heavenly Father is strengthening Brent. What's even more powerful in this is watching Scot and Carolyn (Cary) trying to grieve the loss of their daughter and at the same time helping their son fight for his life. They really are living out John 17 by choosing to look at the positive in this situation. They also realize that the suffering they are enduring at the moment is monumental. Their faith is making them stronger and proving that the Heavenly Father through the name of Jesus is real.

Little Man is looking good today supported by praying parents, praying friends and a Heavenly Father.

Keep hoping. Keep loving. Keep praying.

Thanks you for your prayers.

SOME GOOD NEWS ON "LITTLE MAN"

Hey everyone,

Sometime during the night after 1 a.m. Brent threw up two more times ..that's the bad news.

The GOOD news...from 4:30 a.m onward Brent is resting, but has had some awake times. The really GOOD news for this Monday is that his blood pressure is in the lower 120's - that's an awesome move in the right direction.

I am on the way to Regina to meet with Scot and Carolyn (Cary) to visit and finalize all the details for the memorial for Katie.

MEMORIAL FOR KATIE ROSE PETERSON - FRIDAY APRIL 3, 2009
@ ELIM TABERNACLE...3718 8 ST EAST, SASKATOON, SASKATCHEWAN

The obituary for Katie Rose will be available in the Star Phoenix Tuesday March 31.

Thank you for your prayers for Brent and his parents.

Keep hoping. Keep loving. Keep praying.

DAY 31 - THE STRESS OF UNCERTAINTY CONTINUES ON....

Scot and Carolyn (Cary) are facing some of their greatest challenges of parents during these past thirty one days. Tonight (Sunday March 29), once again the uncertainty of it all has hit them and they are exhausted. No one could have predicted the happenings of this past month that would change the lives of this family forever. No one could have predicted how this would impact so many people not only in Saskatchewan, but around the world.

Brent threw up two more times tonight so the trickle feed line came out - a little disappointing, but had to be done (we'll keep praying that someday in the future his body will be able to handle this food).

Brent's blood pressure is now around the mid 130's - much better but they would like to see it lower. Thank you for your continued prayers in this area.

The good news - the way people are rallying around the Peterson family is a beautiful thing and is showing how great humanity can really be at times like this.

Keep hoping. Keep loving. Keep praying.

Scot and Carolyn (Cary) are grateful to you for your concern and prayers.

BLOOD PRESSURE SPIKING

During the last 90 minutes at Regina General, for whatever reason, Brent's blood pressure is spiking. This is an alert to let you know that his blood pressure is around 150 - they would like it to be normal at around 120. Tonight, his blood pressure is way too high. Mom and Dad are not leaving the hospital tonight until they know things are under control. They are very anxious at the moment at the possibility at what this high blood pressure could cause. One of the most stressful things at this moment is that the medical staff (who are doing an outstanding job) just have no idea what is causing his blood pressure to rise and spike.

Please pray for Brent's blood pressure to become stable and for protection for his aorta. Pray for Scot and Carolyn - the next few hours will be stressful. Pray for God's strength for them.

Keep hoping. Keep loving. Keep praying.

Thanks

COOL CALM GUY

Little Man - Cool Guy had a restful, peaceful night. This Sunday morning everything is calm with Brent.
Pray for stable blood pressure and total healing for his body.

Memorial for Katie is this Friday April 3 rd - pray for preparations. Thank you :)

BLOOD PRESSURE UP AGAIN

Brent is having a medium kind of day. His condition remains critical. The surgery today went well. This whole process is moving in the right direction, but it is painfully slow.

Brent's blood pressure became unstable today and was on the high side. Let's focus our prayers on the blood pressure to become stable all the time.

Keep Hoping. Keep Loving. Keep Praying.

Thank You :)

LITTLE MAN STILL CRITICAL/HEALING WELL

"Little Man" Brent is resting well today. Brent was asleep most of the day.

The biggest challenge is Brent's stomach is rejecting the nourishment through the trickle feed. Once again today he vomited the nourishment. Pray that his body can handle this nourishment and that his stomach will not become upset.

Brent goes for his eleventh surgery on Saturday. This surgery will involve the same as before - cleaning up the vac dressing and checking on the healing around the abdomen.

Otherwise, Brent is having a great day today resting and healing.

Thank you for your prayers and support.

STEADY GOES THE HEALING

Steady is the best word to describe how Brent is doing today. The CT scan yesterday was just routine and everything's fine. Since about 11 a.m. today (Thursday, March 26) Brent has been breathing on his own (off the ventilator). He has an oxygen mask over his trach. Like so many typical teenagers, Brent has been sleeping most of the day.

Brent was awake for a short time today - just long enough for Mom and Dad to say hi and pray with him. When Scot and Carolyn (Cary) left tonight Brent was still breathing on his own.

A PRAYER:

"Father, when doubt or unbelief starts to fill Scot and Carolyn's mind and heart concerning healing, I pray that they will focus on the words of Jesus, 'Do not fear, only believe' " (Mark 5:36). Lord Jesus, You have been exalted as Lord over all. This includes all sickness and disease. In your name and through your power, we pray that you would remove sickness/infection from Brent's life (Philippians 2:9-11).

Scot and Carolyn (Cary) Peterson thank everyone whose sharing in this journey with them and their son, Brent.

The memorial for Katie Rose is Friday, April 3 rd at Elim Tabernacle in Saskatoon. The obituary for Katie Rose will appear in the Star Phoenix paper this Tuesday, March 31.

The journey continues for Brent's healing from the city of Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada........................................

TRICKLE FEED TRICKLING

It's the middle of the week and some of the news of Brent is middle of the road. Overall, Brent had a great Wednesday. Brent's blood pressure is fairly stable but there was some moments where his blood pressure fluctuated. Brent opened his eyes and a pulse can be felt in both of his feet. The changing of the dressing went very well. The infection is still there but it remains the same - it is not spreading. Brent went for a routine CT scan today and at the time of this posting the results were not known yet. Brent was moved to a different room today on the ICU floor (he's still in critical condition). Brent is now staying in the ICU Penthouse. The room is much bigger and alot more comfortable for his Mom and Dad to visit.

The challenge today is the trickle feed line. This line provides nourishment for Brent's body. The medical staff is trying to have this line at a certain level. Brent is having problems handling this level. Unfortunately, he threw up twice today. Pray that Brent can handle the nourishment flowing through this line to his body. Pray that he would stop throwing up.

During times of pain we tend to ask the question "why". It's okay to ask this question but I would like us to be encouraged to ask the question "how" do we live life. Alot of things make no sense in this tragic situation. The promise found in the bible in Isaiah 26:4 says, "Depend on God and keep at it because in the Lord God you have a sure thing". We must keep at living life well. Let the love of God trickle into our hearts and then let that love pour out into the lives of others. Jesus is the sure thing - "Life is short - eternity is long".

Romans 8:17 in the bible says, "And we know we are going to get what's coming to us - an unbelievable inheritance! We go through exactly what Christ goes through. If we go through the hard times with him, then we're certainly going to go through the good times with him!". There is great hope and that's how we get through this time - to let our trickle of prayers become of flood of prayer for healing for the Peterson family.

Pray for the trickle feed line to work properly and for Brent to be able to handle this amount.
Pray for healing for his back.
Pray for healing of his abdomen.
Pray for strength for Scot and Carolyn (Cary).

THANK YOU for your prayers and love for this family. They greatly appreciate you.

TENTH SURGERY COMPLETE

Good morning everyone. Brent went in for surgery at 6:45 and the surgery was complete around 7:45 a.m. The tenth surgery went well. Brent was pretty much breathing on his own last night until about 1:30 a.m. That is good news. Please continue to pray for total healing for Brent and that he will be able to breathe on his own.

Scot and Carolyn (Cary) THANK YOU for your prayers and thoughtfulness.

In honor of Katie: "Make good choices"

EVERY BREATH HE TAKES, GOD IS WATCHING OVER BRENT

Brent had another great day today (Tues. March 24). The medical staff is trying to lower his sedation levels. Brent is more awake today. His eyes were open often today. Scot and Carolyn (Cary) were able to touch Brent and talk to him today. Brent's blood pressure is remaining fairly stable. Brent was moving again today - his arms, legs and feet were in motion. Brent is still listed in critical condition but he is certainly making some good gains in getting back to good health.

The greatest news of Tuesday was since 8:45 a.m. Brent was breathing without the assistance of a ventilator. The breathing machine and tubes are still there but Brent was basically breathing without the machine. Tonight (Tuesday night), the staff are going to see if Brent can breathe without the ventilator machine. During each breath today, Brent's blood pressure remained stable. Brent also tried to talk to his Mom and Dad today but it was hard to understand what he was trying to say. Scot and Carolyn (Cary) did their best to read his lips. They were close by alot today to comfort Brent.

Brent goes for his tenth surgery before 7 a.m. on Wed March 25.

Please pray for the following:
  • for Brent's blood pressure to remain stable
  • for Brent to breathe without the assistance of the machine
  • everything to go well during his surgery on Wed. morning
  • for Brent to come out of critical condition and become altogether more stable
  • for healing of his back
  • for Brent to be able to talk
  • for the nurses and doctors at Regina General Hospital

Please increase your prayers for Scot and Carolyn (Cary) over the next few days. They have been under alot of stress and sleepless nights over the past few weeks. Some things need to be taken care of over the next few days. Pray for the following for Scot and Carolyn (Cary):

  • for them to sense comfort as they grieve the loss of Katie
  • for their physical bodies to be strengthened
  • for a good night's rest every night
  • for the anxiety to be replaced by peace
  • for guidance as they walk through this unfamiliar territory

Remember, Scot loves Tim Horton's and Carolyn loves Purdy's chocolates (any milk chocolate she loves).

The Peterson's are wonderful parents. Let's continue to encourage them. :)

Thank you for taking the time to read this and for encouraging the Peterson family.

A GOOD STRETCH GOES A LONG WAY

Day two of good news. Scot and Carolyn (Cary) are energized by the happenings of today. Brent opened his eyes a few times today. During these moments his eyes looked bright and alert. Scot and Carolyn (Cary) were able to have moments where they could hold their son's hand today and talk with him - all while his blood pressure remained stable.

Stretching is good for all of us. It would be an understatement to say that this is a stretching experience for all of us who know the Peterson family. Imagine how stretching this moment is for Scot, Carolyn (Cary) and Brent. Physically today Brent had a couple of moments where he fully stretched his whole body - his legs and feet are moving well. This stretched the spirit of his parents as they watched their son moving in the right direction.

(Just a fun fact about Scot and Carolyn (Cary) - Scot loves Tim Hortons and Carolyn (Cary) loves Purdy's Chocolates (too bad there's no Purdy's in Saskatchewan!)

The Petersons THANK YOU for your continued prayers. They are also grateful for the support they have received and for the encouraging responses found on the blog and facebook. These comments go a long way in the healing journey for Mom and Dad P. so please feel free to publish them. :) (and one day Brent will get to read them..imagine how this will make him feel!)

The medical staff at Regina General Hospital are incredible. Thank you for all your hard work in the healing process of Brent's life.

A prayer for Brent:

"Father in heaven, Your word says that you are our healer, we plead in the name of Jesus that You will heal Brent totally. Drive this infection completely out of his body (Psalm 103:1-4). Father, we plead that you will heal Brent because of Jesus' work on the cross. By His death and the merits of His blood, we pray that you would grant healing to Brent (Isaiah 53:4-5)". AMEN

EYE OPENING EXPERIENCE

Brent had a great day today. He is resting and healing well. Brent's blood pressure is stable. The sedative is slowly being decreased. A great thing for Scot and Carolyn (Cary) today....Brent was awake enough to respond to his Mom and Dad. Brent also had his eyes open today for a few moments.

Carolyn would like to share a verse from the bible - "I will lead blind Israel down a new path, guiding them along an unfamiliar way. I will brighten the darkness before them and smooth out the road ahead of them. Yes, I will indeed do these things; I will not forsake them" (Isaiah 42:16 - NLT)

"But I will take the hand of those who don't know the way. Who can't see where they're going. I'll be a personal guide to them, directing them through unknown country. I'll be right there to show them what roads to take, make sure they don't fall into the ditch. These are the things I'll be doing for them - sticking with them, not leaving them for a minute" (Isaiah 42:16 - The Message)

God is taking the hand of Brent, Scot and Carolyn (Cary) and is directing them. Jesus is a personal guide to them directing them with the Holy Spirit through unknown country. God will be there to show the Petersons what roads to take. These are the things I'll be doing for them - sticking with Brent, his Mom and Dad, not leaving them for a minute.

BRENT OUT OF SURGERY

Sorry for the late posting - I was officiating a wedding today in Delta, B.C.

Brent came out of surgery around 5:30 tonight. The surgery went well and Brent is resting. Brent will continue to need more surgery . These surgeries involve healing the skin around the abdomen and changing the vac dressing. More surgeries will be scheduled and it does appear that this healing will take some time.

Please become more fervent in your prayers for healing for Brent. Each day involves many miracles and God is at work in Brent's life.

Pray for:

  • full healing of Brent's abdomen, bowel, aorta
  • for the blood pressure to stabilize
  • for his back to become strong and solid
  • for moments for Brent to handle conversation and touch
  • for Scot and Carolyn as they prepare for the memorial for Katie on April 3

"You and your prayers are part of the rescue operation - I don't want you in the dark about that either. I can see your faces even now, lifted in praise for God's deliverance of us, a rescue in which your prayers played such a crucial part" (The Message - 2 Corinthians 1:11)

BRENT'S CONDITION IS THE SAME - CONTINUE TO PRAY FOR HEALING

BLOOD PRESSURE STABLE THROUGH THE NIGHT

Brent's blood pressure was stable through the night. That is good news but the goal is for his blood pressure to be stable at all times. They were able to change an IV line as well.

Prayer - "You are the God of healing. Your name declares that You are the Healer. Your nature is to heal. I plead with you to be true to Your name and Your nature. I ask you to release healing into Brent's life. Reveal Yourself to be the God of healing by touching and transforming Brent (Exodus 15:26)" Amen.

Scot and Carolyn (Cary) are grateful for you and your kindness....

FOR THOSE WHO LOVED KATIE ROSE

It hurts so much to lose someone you love,
You have my deepest sympathy, and I want you to know how sorry I am for your loss..
I know it will take a lot of time to learn to live without this special person,
and it won't be easy.
But your loved one would want you to take the very best care of yourself and enjoy the fullest life you can.

As soon as you're able, try to honor Katie's memory by the way you treat yourself and others in your life.
Let the legacy of this person you loved so much help you touch other lives in your own positive way.

Each time you revisit the memories you made together,
Let the love you shared give you courage and help you to move on.

You will get through this, and you will grow stronger with each effort you make.

-Donna Fargo, Blue Mountain Arts

BRENT'S NEXT SURGERY IS SATURDAY MARCH 21

THE JOURNEY OF HEALING TAKES TIME

It takes time to build a friendship...
It takes time to develop trust with another person...............
It takes time to build a solid reputation.................
It takes time to wait upon the Lord to renew our strength.....................................
It takes time to master a musical skill...................
It takes time for a person to heal ..............

That's where we are at tonight. Brent is resting well and his condition is much the same. The blood pressure needs to become stable. There are tubes and wires connected to Brent. The trach is working well in helping Brent to breathe. This journey is taking it's time. The exciting part is Brent is taking baby steps in the right direction in healing. We must look beyond all the tubes, wires and machines. There, waiting for a fresh start is Brent - the little man we love.

It takes time for Brent to have all the friendships he has....
It takes time for Brent to continue to build trust with the medical staff..........
It takes time for Brent to develop a solid reputation to become a young man of integrity....
It takes time for Brent to quietly wait upon the Lord for strength.....
It takes time for Brent to develop his saxophone skills.......
It takes time for Brent to heal...........

It will take time for Brent to heal. The days are long for his Mom and Dad who patiently wait at the Regina hospital. Today they were able to hold his hand, say a few words to him and pray with him. Mom and Dad are taking the time to commit themselves to celebrating the life of Katie and encouraging the life of Brent to heal and continue.

Please, take the time to pray for this family.

Thank you....:)

EIGHTH SURGERY COMPLETE

Brent completed his eighth surgery. Everything went well. Some of the injuries are healing well and the doctors took care of some of the skin. The infection is still the same which in a way is good as the infection has not spread or become larger. The feed line was taken out of his mouth and inserted through his nose. The breathing line was taken out of his mouth. The tracheotomy went very well and this will be the new way Brent will be breathing.

Brent still needs alot of prayer. Brent, you have alot of people cheering for you and send their love your way.

Scot and Carolyn (Cary) - hang in there. You are awesome parents.

Brent's next surgery is this Saturday March 21.

Thank you for your concern and prayers.

BRENT IS IN SURGERY AS OF 3:30 p.m. - PLEASE PRAY

RESTING - GETTING READY FOR SURGERY

Hey everyone - Brent is resting well this morning. Later today he will have surgery. Pray for his blood pressure to become stable and for a successful surgery. This will be his eighth surgery. He is listening to one of his favorite artists - Toby Mac.

"God sets up a circle of protection around us while we pray" Psalm 34:7

THE INFUSION

Our heart goes out to the LITTLE MAN who is fighting hard everyday through this BIG challenge. The blood pressure is the main issue that we need to pray for it to become stable. Brent is now receiving a steady infusing of blood pressure medication to help control his blood pressure. They believe that the fluctuation in blood pressure is pain related. Please pray:

  • the pain that Brent might be feeling to go away totally
  • the blood pressure to become stable
  • the surgery that is happening on Wed March 18
  • the skin to continue to heal and become more pink
  • healing around the vac dressing
  • the trachetomy - that there would be no complications and help Brent feel comfortable

PROUD OF SCOT - Scot is a great father. Through all this stress his faith in Christ has given him strength and he remains hopeful. Today was a big day for Scot as he travelled back to Saskatoon to take care of a few things. This was a first that needed to happen and I'm sure was challenging for him. After taking care of some necessary stuff in Saskatoon, Scot travelled with his mom safely back to Regina tonight.

Please continue to pray for the Petersons, for Katie's and Brent's friends, the medical staff at Regina General and for complete healing for Brent. Pray for Katie's Memorial that is happening on April 3. THANK YOU!!

RESCHEDULED

Good morning everyone.

Brent's SURGERY FOR TODAY is RESCHEDULED for Wed March 18. There's another doctor that will be joining the team and he's not available until Wednesday. The inconsistent blood pressure is still a major issue.

Pray that Brent's blood pressure will become stable today.
Pray that as Scot and Carolyn (Cary) prepare for the memorial that it will be healing for them and full of great memories.

"My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from Him. He alone is my rock and my salvation." Psalm 62: 1 & 2

Thank you everyone....

A MOTHER'S KISS

Brent is recovering, yet the challenges seem overwhelming and sometimes consuming. Today, some new information was communicated to his parents, Scot and Carolyn (Cary) - on Tuesday March 17 Brent will be going for his eighth surgery (we do not know the time yet). During this procedure the following will occur:
  • the trickle feed which provides nourishment for his body through a tube - will be inserted through the side of his stomach (at the moment the trickle feed in his mouth)
  • the tube that is helping him breathe right now goes through his mouth - Brent will need help long term (at the moment long term cannot be defined) so the doctor will be performing a tracheotmy - this will help Brent to breathe easier
  • they will be taking a look at the vac dressing and change it
  • they will also take a look at the skin - right now alot of the skin is healing well and becoming pink - the less dead skin, the less chance of infection
The biggest issue at the moment that Brent needs prayer for is that his blood pressure is unstable and too high at most times. Tonight, Carolyn, his nurturing mom, gave him a goodnight kiss which caused his blood pressure to spike. A lesson to all of us that the simple things in life are the greatest gifts.

Carolyn (Cary) and Scot are amazing parents. What I am impressed with the most is how positive they are and how they are leaning on God through this challenge with Brent. They love their son and want him well.

Please pray for the above and for complete healing. Scot and Carolyn (Cary) thank you immensely.

The Rollercoaster Ride Continues

Brent is having a few challenges today. His blood pressure is NOT STABLE. He is going for surgery on Tuesday March 17 - he is getting his dressing cleaned up. They are also putting a trach to help him breathe (thus the tube will be taken out of his mouth). Pray persistently for Brent - pray for Scot and Carolyn (for less anxiety and more peace) . THANK YOU for your prayers.....

BLOOD PRESSURE STABLE

Brent is resting well tonight. His blood pressure seems to be remaining stable. Please continue to pray for full healing for Brent. Thank you.

LITTLE BY LITTLE

Good morning everyone. It's amazing what faith and praying can do. Brent is moving in the right direction. This morning his blood pressure is stable. He has no fever.

Please pray:
  • for his blood pressure to remain stable
  • for the infection to go away
  • for full healing of his body
  • for strength for Scot and Carolyn
  • for the medical staff at Regina General to be divinely guided

The Peterson's express their gratitude to everyone....

BRENT OUT OF SURGERY

Brent came out of surgery around 10 a.m (sorry for the delay - I was attending a funeral). Brent's surgery went fine. The surgery showed that some of his tissue is becoming pink which is good because that means there's healing. Also, the infection is still there but it has not spread or become larger - that's good. The biggest challenge Brent has right now is that they are trying to reduce the sedation he is receiving. They don't want him to be on this long term. The challenge is when they lower the sedation Brent's blood pressure begins to increase (they want to make sure that the aorta does not burst again). Brent is still in critical condition.

Pray for the following:
  • Brent's blood pressure to become stable without the sedation
  • full healing of the abdomen and aorta area
  • for Brent to breathe on his own (without the ventilator)
  • wisdom for the doctors and medical staff taking care of Brent
  • Strength and comfort for Scot and Carolyn

Brent will not be able to receive visitors for awhile until he is stable.

Scot and Carolyn send their appreciation to you for your prayers and support. They are also grateful for the medical staff at Regina General Hospital.

HEALING PRAYER FOR BRENT

"Father you created Brent. You formed him. You knit his inward parts in his womb. You alone know how to make what is right in Brent's body. You alone know how to heal Brent. As his Creator we pray that you would grant healing to Brent. Let your power envelop him and bring the healing that is needed. AMEN" (Genesis 1:26, Psalm 139)

"LITTLE MAN" GOING FOR SEVENTH SURGERY

Brent is heading into surgery right now at 7:48 a.m. on Sat. March 14. Please pray for wisdom for the medical staff. Pray also for the surgery to go smoothly and for Brent to become more stable.

Thank you for your prayers.

BRENT IN ICU IN CRITICAL CONDITION

Brent is still in critical condition in ICU at Regina General Hospital. His condition hasn't changed much over the last few hours. The medical staff is working on the pain management - Brent seems to be in alot of pain. Brent was awake for awhile tonight.

Pray for:

  • Brent to not feel the pain
  • Brent's body to stabilize and heal quickly
  • for the infection to go away
  • Scot and Carolyn - strength and comfort

Thank you for your prayers for Brent and his family.

RESTING WELL

Brent is resting well this morning. His condition remains the same so the more he rests the better the healing.

Yesterday, James (one of Katie's closest friends) travelled with me to Regina to visit with the Petersons. It was great hearing some more stories about Katie.

I've been in Saskatchewan almost two years now. When James and I travelled home to Saskatoon last night - the Northern Lights were absolutely vivid and spectacular. We miss the bright personality of Katie but we know because of her faith in Jesus she is in heaven. We miss her here though.

The Peterson's thank you for the support they are receiving.

BABY STEPS FORWARD

Brent came out of surgery around 7:45 p.m. The best way to describe what is going on is Brent is taking baby steps forward in the right direction. His condition is still critical and every surgery has it's risks. Let's keep hoping for the best. Here's what happened today:

  • the surgery went very well
  • during the surgery they noticed all the vital organs are working well (aorta, heart, lungs and the bowel)
  • they removed the dead skin from the back incision and there was no infection there
  • today there is optimism that Brent is heading in the right direction for healing
  • the doctor is happy that the new sedation medicine is effective and helping Brent to heal
  • in other parts of his body there is still infection - let us hope that the infection will be gone soon

Today there are some answers to prayer in the healing of Brent. There is much progression in Brent's healing journey compared to yesterday. Let us all remain steadfast in our prayers.

We love Brent and we want him to come out of the hospital real fast. The reality is Brent's healing journey is going to take some time. This journey is going to help us all grow in our faith and patience. Keep believing for all the miracles to happen in Brent's life.

Scot and Carolyn (Cary) say a great big heartfelt thank you.

LITTLE MAN GOING FOR SIXTH SURGERY TODAY

Thursday March 12 2009

Brent is still in critical condition. We all want Brent to heal fast. Sometimes with the injuries so severe that there are going to be ups and downs. Brent, at the moment is going through some huge challenges with his body. The surgery today is not a scheduled surgery - but it is needed and the Peterson's are waiting (as of 5 p.m.) for Brent to be taken to the operating room.

The infection is still affecting his abdomen and aorta area. The operation today involves the incision in the back side. This incision has developed some dead skin and there is concern that more infection may develop. The surgery today also includes cleaning up areas of his abdomen and stomach. This will give the doctors an opportunity to see if the present infection is clearing up.

Brent is heavily sedated at the moment and his blood pressure has stabilized. This will allow his body to heal faster.

Pray for:
  • the surgery today to be successful
  • for the infection to go away and that there would be no other infections
  • the blood pressure to remain stable
  • healing of his abdomen, aorta, and back
  • they want to take the TPN line off and put a trickle feed line on - this would be a huge step in the right direction - pray that this can be done
  • Brent is still on the ventilator - pray that he can breathe on his own

This is a tough time for Scot and Carolyn - they are tired but have great attitudes. The support they are receiving from you is tremendous and they are very grateful.

CRITICAL CONDITION - PART 4

Thursday March 12 2009

"Little man" is fighting through. His condition is still the same (critical). The good news is he rested very well during the night and the new medication is working well.

Pray for:

  • the infection to go away
  • healing for his abdomen and aorta
  • his body to become stronger
  • for Brent's situation to become stable
  • for a miraculous healing
  • Scot and Carolyn - they need a release from all this stress and comfort as they grieve the loss of Katie
  • for all of Brent's friends - a peace beyond all understanding
  • the amazing medical staff at Regina General

Just a reminder: Memorial for Katie in Saskatoon on Friday April 3 at 1 p.m. at Elim Tabernacle

Psalm 34:7 - "God's angel sets up a circle of protection around us while we pray"

Let's expect a miracle today!

Scot and Carolyn send their thanks to all of you.....

Pray without ceasing......

"LITTLE MAN" - BIG CHALLENGE

Wed March 11 2009

Hey everyone. Brent "Little Man" is still in critical condition. Pray for the following please:
  • the new sedative that it will be more effective in the healing process
  • for the infection to go away
  • for the blood pressure to become stable
  • for wisdom and strength for the medical staff that are looking after him
  • for Scot and Carolyn (Cary) - peace and strength

During this critical stage today the nursing staff said that it is best if no one talks or touches Brent so he doesn't become too excited. For a few moments tonight though they let Carolyn (Cary) speak a few words to Brent and say good night. The small moments in life are priceless.

Thank you for your prayers and for your notes of encouragement on the blog or facebook. Scot and Carolyn (Cary) have been reading them every night for inspiration.

Keep praying please...

CRITICAL CONDITION

Wed March 11 2009

Brent is still in critical condition. The infection is in his abdomen and aorta. Scot and Carolyn appreciate your prayers at this critical time.

CONDITION IS CRITICAL

Wed March 11 2009

When you are a patient in ICU (intensive care unit) you have injuries or conditions that are quite severe or extreme. When people recover in ICU it can be an emotional rollercoaster ride for relatives and friends. Some days are can be really good and others are really bad.

The last two days Brent was showing signs of great progress and healing. These were great days of Brent responding to his Mom and Dad and doing well.

It is with great concern that I let you know that Brent took a turn for the worst last night. Around 11:45 Brent was bleeding and the doctors were called in to operate. The surgery lasted for five and a half hours.

Around 5:30 a.m. I received a phone call from Scot. Brent's injuries are extreme (which we already knew) so every moment counts. The unfortunate news is that Brent has developed an infection around his aorta. The doctors and nurses are doing their best but this development was a surprise. The next few hours Brent needs a miracle to happen.

We are asking you to pray without ceasing for healing. The hours ahead are critical. Pray for:
  • The infection to go away
  • healing so there would be no more bleeding
  • the aorta area to be healed
  • Scot and Carolyn (Cary) - this is a difficult journey for them

We don't understand the "why" of everything. Let us not go there. Let us trust and believe.

Scot and Carolyn (Cary) thank you for your prayers and for your love

Brent is doing good, but no visiting yet

Tuesday, March 10, 2009

Brent is doing good today. He was very active this morning. The doctor is encouraged by his progress. They are still working on stablizing his blood pressure. Three weeks from now they were going to get the feeding line established to his body. His body is becoming ready for that nourishment so it looks like they are going to be establishing that line near the end of this week. If that happens that is remarkable progress. Brent is known in the ICU as the "Miracle Boy". Due to his condition and blood pressure no visitors will be allowed for awhile. We thank you for your patience as we know you would like to see him but he needs his rest. Thank you for your prayers.

Brent is recovering at Regina General and it is not known yet when he will be back in Saskatoon.

Great day for Brent on Monday

Monday, March 9, 2009

I was in Regina Monday to see the Peterson's. On the weekend Brent's aorta ruptured and required surgery. Surgery went very well. Here's what happened on Monday:
  • Brent became very awake and alert
  • His eyes looked great - they were bright, focused and alert
  • Brent was responding to questions by nodding his head or blinking his eyes
  • His blood pressure is not stable enough so he has to get as much rest as possible
  • Part of the visit I had his blood pressure was very stable so I was able to talk to him - that was a great moment and it was cool to see him respond back
  • Brent tried so hard to talk but he can't at the moment because he's on the ventilator
  • this is awesome - Brent was moving his legs and feet - they place some gel (the stuff you use for ultrasounds) on his feet and he was able to feel it.

Your prayers are working. Please pray for complete healing. Brent goes for surgery on Wed March 11 - pray that it will be successful.

Despite the circumstances, Scot and Carolyn (Cary) are healing well - they look great. They send their thanks! We read from the bible - Proverbs 3:1-6. We are putting our trust in the Lord.

Today (March 10) is Scot's birthday so we wish him a peaceful and great day.

One Step Forward, Two Steps Backward

Saturday, March 7, 2009

A long day for Scot, Carolyn and Brent. Brent's blood pressure needs to become more stable. While a dressing was being changed an incident occurred and Brent ended up going for a two hour surgery on Saturday afternoon. This caused a scare and some stress for his parents.

The surgery went fine. A blood transfusion was required. Brent is now being heavily sedated again to allow his body to heal properly.

Good news...when they were checking his legs and toes there was some movement today.

Pray for Scot and Carolyn - they are tired and experiencing alot of stress.

Pray for the following for Brent - for the blood pressure to be normal, for his body to become stronger so less sedation is required, for healing for his heart, intestine, bowel. Pray for a stronger back and more movement in his legs.

I read with Scot James 5:14 - 15 " Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make them well; the Lord will raise him up"

Please keep praying.

My heart aches for and loves this family greatly.

Intimate Family Gathering

Friday was set aside for the family to come together to remember and celebrate the life of Katie Rose Peterson.

The family gathered at Speers family home to say farewell to their daughter, sister, friend, niece and granddaughter.

The room was decorated with beautiful pink roses (one of Katie's favorite colors) and with some of her stuffed horses from home (she loved horses and dolphins).

Family were invited to come to the viewing. Scot and Carolyn have an incredible family and as you can imagine, the viewing was very emotional.

After the viewing the family gathered for an intimate, informal farewell to Katie. The informal farewell was hosted by Rev. Rob Clark, assisted by Rev. Shawn Chapman and Pastor Angela McDonald.

The family were invited to share some memories of Katie including:

Katie loved her Grandma's borscht
Katie loved horses and dolphins
She loved the Jonas brothers and "changed" her last name to Kate Jonas
Her energy level was very high and she was active (especially as a younger child)
Her father talked about her laughter
Her mother talked about the times they had together doing girl stuff
A close family friend talked about the orange peel fight in the basement during a sleepover
Some talked about how they will miss talking to her on the phone
Another talked about how Katie sewed pillows and blankets for others
An individual shared how Katie played the hymn Holy, Holy, Holy on the piano and they will never forget how she played

There was some laughter as we celebrated her life.
Then there was some sadness as we all understood she is gone too soon and we will miss her greatly.

A poem was read by Rev. Shawn Chapman (I will post later)
Some facebook messages were read by Rev. Rob Clark

A card given to the Peterson's was read by Rev. Rob Clark. It says:

We are all creatures of this great earth
interconnected in ways beyond understanding
Take elephants
So big
So strong
And yet,
when a member
of the herd passes.
even elephants mourn.
They gather around,
extend their trunks,
and gently touch
the tusks
of their fallen friend.
It's their ritual.
It's how they heal.
And it's sad.
And it's beautiful,

So maybe
what we're trying to say
is that the world
doesn't expect you to be fine with this.

Be how you need to be,
Mourn how you need to mourn.

And know that you're thought of
with love.

(copyright Carlton cards, AGC, inc.)

Rev. Rob Clark read from Psalm 23 (the message):

God my shepherd! I don't need a thing.
You have bedded me down in lush meadows,
you find me quiet pools to drink from.
True to your word,
you let me catch my breath
and send me in the right direction.
Even when the way goes through Death Valley,
I'm not afraid
when you walk at my side.
Your trusty shepherd's crook makes me feel secure.
You serve me a six-course dinner
right in front of my enemies.
You revive my drooping head;
my cup brims with blessing.
Your beauty and love chase after me
every day of my life
I'm back home in the house of God
for the rest of my life.

We thank the Lord for entrusting us with the life of Katie.
Katie loved Jesus and lived according to the Bible..especially displaying the fruit of the spirit found in Galatians 5:22 &23 - Katie was loving, full of joy, peaceful, patient, kind, good, faithful, gentle.

The kids she loved will miss her greatly.
Her family loves her and has great memories of her.

Farewell Katie..you lived your life well.

This family gathering occurred on Friday, March 6 2009 at Speers Funeral home in Regina from 2:30 to 6 p.m.

The family gathered for refreshments and encouragement afterwards.

In memory of Katie Rose Peterson, age 16

MEMORIAL - the memorial for Katie Rose Peterson will take place in Saskatoon. The date will be announced soon.

Brent's condition

Brent's condition is the same. Today he's having a few challenges with fever and blood pressure. No visitors were allowed today so he can rest well. Please continue to pray for healing.

Brent is stable and fighting!

Wednesday, March 4

I was able to spend a few hours with Brent. He is stable. He is still on the ventilator and heavily sedated. His color looks great. The only concern is that sometimes he is getting a little too warm. They are doing everything to make sure a fever does not develop.

They are trying to ween him off the ventilator and reduce his pain medication. They want to see if this can be tolerated. His heart and lungs are doing great!

There are spinal injuries - let me clearly specify - THE INJURIES ARE UNDETERMINED AT THE MOMENT AND THE DOCTORS ARE WORKING ON THIS.

Continue to pray for healing from the recent surgery and that the ventilator can be taken out. Other parts of his "insides" are beginning to work well - an answer to prayer.

We continue to read the cards you have sent to Brent. We also read the facebook messages to him.

If you would like to send a card or gift you are welcome to drop it off at Elim Tabernacle - 3718 8 St East - please drop them off during office hours from 8:30 to 4:30.

Scot and Carolyn are preparing all the necessary documents and are thinking of Katie. They are thinking of what is the best way to celebrate Katie's life. This is a difficult situation for parents to be in and they are doing their best. Scot and Carolyn are incredible parents. Continue to pray for strength, healing, and wisdom for them.

The memorial for Katie will be announced as soon as the parents know when it is the best time.

From Scot and Carolyn - thank you for all your support, concern, and prayers.

Stable is good

Monday March 2, 2009

Scot and Carolyn were released from hospital on Sunday.

Brent continues to recover well from his third surgery and he is still at Regina General. He is less responsive because of the heavy sedation from his medication. We visit him - talk with him - played some of his favorite music (Toby Mac). We learned today that what's been happening with Brent since Friday night is a miracle. The medical staff commented on how well is doing considering how dire it looked on Friday. There's color in Brent's face and his hands are nice and warm. We also learned today that his recovery will probably be a long and challenging one. We read to Brent from scripture Luke 4:38 - 40 where Simon's mother-in-law is healed from a fever when Jesus prayed for her. Again, we continue to pray for healing for Brent.

We also read to Brent the messages on his facebook wall. Thank you for the get well wishes you are sending.

There is some talk on how to handle the funeral/memorial to honor Katie's life. We will inform you of the date when we know.

Some of the youth and friends of Katie came to gather at the youth pastors home on Tuesday night to share stories of Katie and to pray for Brent.

Scot and Carolyn want to express their gratitude to you for praying for their family.

Reality sets in

Sunday March 1, 2009

Brent's condition on Saturday night was stable to the point that the third surgery was scheduled for Sunday morning. However, early Sunday morning, a fever set in. Many people prayed and just before the surgery his fever went down. The surgery was to remove some of the scarring and to repair some of the "insides". Brent's surgery was four hours and there was a long recovery wait. Scot and Carolyn began to feel the pressure of the situation and their new reality. However, because of their faith, they are strong and holding up well. Please pray for strength for them. Brent's surgery was successful and he is resting well.

Reality set in for alot of the Peterson's friends at Elim Tabernacle today. Appropriately and with great sensitivity we announced to the Elim family the events that occurred with the Peterson's. Those who know this family well - there was lots of tears and emotional moments. Together, as a church we gathered to pray for Brent and his family.

More family members and friends arrived in Regina to offer support to the family. There is also tremendous support through emails, facebook and phone calls. We will make sure these messages are sent to the family.

Matthew 5:4 "Blessed are those who mourn for they shall be comforted"

Critical Moments

Saturday, February 28, 2009

Scot and Carolyn were resting and taking care of Brent. Brent was not doing too well and required two surgeries to help repair his crushed aorta and help heal the "insides" of his body. Brent incurred great internal injuries. It was also learned that there was some injury to the spine. The injury is still undetermined as the medical staff wait for Brent to heal so they can turn him over to take care of the spinal injury. Brent wiggled his toes and responded to touch on his feet. Family members started arriving Friday night - Scot and Carolyn have amazing support from their family members. Many visitors came by on Saturday to see him. Brent did a great job opening his eyes for a few seconds and squeezing the hands of visitors. We continue to pray.

Tragedy happens to the Peterson Family

Friday, February 27, 2009

This site is to encourage and support the Peterson family. Scot, Carolyn and their two kids, Katie and Brent were on their way for a fun family weekend. Around 3:30 p.m on Friday, February 27, 2009 there was a tragic accident just south of Lumsden near Regina. The parents Scot and Carolyn were taken to hospital with serious injuries. Brent, 14, was hospitalized with critical injuries. With immense grief we found out that Katie, 16, died at the scene of the accident.

Katie was a sweet girl who was kind to everyone she knew. Katie loved her friends and loved to have fun. She was very involved in her home church, Elim Tabernacle, looking after children. She loved being around kids, especially little babies and toddlers. We will miss Katie greatly.

The purpose of this site is to keep you informed about the family. We encourage you to pray for healing for this family.
