THURSDAY, APRIL 30 TH - A day for KATIE ROSE
Kelsi saw the cross on the wall. Kelsi said "that's a cross like Jesus died on. My mom and dad say that Jesus isn't on the cross anymore. He's alive and in Heaven. Grandma said, "yes, that is true". Kelsi said, "..my friend was in an accident and she died and is in heaven with Jesus, I miss Katie so much, she was my teacher in nursery class." Katie Rose loved the little kids and Kelsi is one of those kids that remembers the kindness of Katie.
Pray for Scot, Carolyn (Cary), and Brent as on this day (Thursday, April 30) they remember the birthday of Katie Rose. Honor Katie Rose today by doing what she always said to her Dad, "Make right choices."
SURGERY NUMBER TWENTY
Thank you for praying for Brent.
Keep hoping.Keep loving.Keep praying.

LOVE YOU MOM, LOVE YOU DAD
- Brent is moving his toes, fingers, hands and arms well (not back to full strength but he's working hard at moving them)
- Blood pressure is good all day today! :)
- Healing is going slowly, but going in the right direction
Some other facts:
- The Peterson home in Saskatoon is being well looked after by friends, neighbors on a daily basis. One of the Peterson's friends, who is a police officer, checks on the house on a regular basis.
- Scot and Brent were having a great time today watching OVERHAUL
- It is understood that Brent doesn't really know about the passing of Katie. Mom and Dad have mentioned a few things like "Katie's in heaven" etc. but they really haven't had a talk with him yet. They are waiting for the most appropriate time to let Brent know.
- Pray for the Peterson family in a greater way this Thursday. This Thursday is April 30 which would have been Katie's 17 th birthday.
Pray for Brent for the following:
- pray for strength in the movement of his leg, feet, hands, arms, fingers.
- pray for him to overcome discouragement - when he is playing the wii or trying to write - after a little time has passed he's not able to do it anymore. Brent feels like he's failing. Pray that Brent won't have that fear of failing and that his confidence will grow.
- Brent is having times of sadness - pray that he will comfort when he feels this way
It's all about love. On Monday, Brent wrote slowly and carefully a note - on the paper it said, "Love you Mom". Today (Tuesday), Brent wrote another note and on it were the words, "Love you Dad". These words went a long way into the hearts of Scot and Carolyn (Cary). God's love is strengthening the love in this family. Your love is sending out huge encouragement to the Peterson family.
Keep praying.Keep hoping. Keep loving.
TRUST FUND FOR PETERSON FAMILY
There is a trust fund set up to specifically bless the Peterson family during this difficult time. The funds deposited in this account go directly to assist with any needs that arise during this time.
ON behalf of the Peterson family, some family friends set up an account (Katie Peterson Memorial Fund) in which donations may be deposited. This account is open indefinitely for now at Credit Union Affinity at the 3315 C Fairlight Drive location.
Thank you for your practical support.

OVERHAULING BRENT
Brent's surgery yesterday went great and he's been resting all day Saturday. The healing is going painfully slow, but it's going in the right direction.
Brent was bonding with his Mom yesterday watching a show called OVERHAUL. It's a show where they take damaged vehicles and overhaul them into something better. For Mom, the show is uninteresting and slow moving. Brent loves watching it so Carolyn (Cary) watches it with him. What Brent doesn't know is he is in for a few chick flicks with him Mom soon.
Brent was injured in a major accident on Feb. 27. This young guy so badly in need of repairs is receiving a major overhaul at Regina General. He is critical and it's going to take time. After this journey is complete, Brent will become someone better and greater.
Two most major concerns at the moment:
- Brent is feeling alot of nausea
- Brent's blood pressure needs to stabilize
The Peterson family are grateful for you and your prayers. Thank you!
Keep hoping.Keep loving.Keep praying.

SLOW AND STEADY SATURDAY
Brent enjoyed a steady Friday. The healing is happening and it's just taking time.
The medical staff at Regina General are getting Brent ready for his nineteenth surgery (this is again a routine surgery to take care of the vac dressing and clean up the abdomen area - these surgeries are necessary to slowly help the abdomen heal and eventually close up the entire abdomen area). The surgery is happening sometime this morning.
Two biggest concerns:
- Brent is experiencing alot of nausea
- Brent's blood pressure needs to stabilize
Slow and steady healing is causing all of us to learn more about patience in our lives. Patience is one of the hardest things to experience and grow into our characters. One of the greatest gifts Brent and the Peterson's are giving to us is the importance of practicing patience with each other and life's situations.
The medical staff and others enjoyed Grandma Maggie's maple twists and homemade buns ...mmmmmmm.
Keep hoping and praying for Brent. Your persistent prayers are necessary.
The Peterson's thank you greatly.
Keep hoping.Keep loving.Keep praying.

SLOW AND STEADY EQUALS GAINING STRENGTH
- the dialysis machine is off - they even took the line out from his body
- the trickle feed line is still off (due to Brent vomiting a few times today)
- Brent is still breathing on his own (with the trach assisting)
- He's moving his arms and fingers well
- On the whole, he is alert during the day and having good sleep at night
- Brently's doing a great job moving and lifting his legs (today he moved them higher than yesterday and has great kicking motion with his legs)
- Carolyn (Cary) is reading the Chronicles of Narnia to Brent and he's loving it....they are on Chapter ten
The greatest challenge is that his blood pressure is not stablizing (even while he's sleeping). Pray that his blood pressure would stablize totally and not spike.
Scot and Carolyn (Cary) have just completed day 56 of their new reality. These committed parents are with Brent as much as possible to encourage him to greater strength and full healing.
Carolyn (Cary) is enjoying her walks in the morning.
Scot is enjoying the soccer games he's attending and that his hockey team, The Boston Bruins, just swept the Montreal Canadiens away.
SLOW and STEADY is the name of the game right now. Thank you for your patience and for praying for this great family.
Keep hoping.Keep loving.Keep praying.

QUICK TUESDAY UPDATE
Brent will be going for his eighteenth surgery today.
Thanks for your prayers.

FOUR NURSES PLUS TWO OT'S and a Wii
Just to remind everyone of the following:
- Brent's healing well and moving forward
- due to the extent of his injuries, this healing will take a long time
- Scot and Carolyn(Cary) know that Brent's healing will take some time and are mentally prepared for the length of time they need to commit
- Scot and Carolyn (Cary) also recognize that there could still be setbacks or other surprises along this long road
- Blood pressure still a concern - on the high side tonight
- Brent vomited at 5 p.m tonight - not sure why this is happening
- Brent watched Spiderman again today - such a teen!
Brent's feet and ankles need some strengthening. Two occupational therapists stopped by today to help Brent. Amy and Lori (the two OT's) made "Jesus sandals" for Brent. They are actually splints with laces that criss cross on his legs and feet. Amy and Lori made these for Brent so the muscles in Brent's feet and ankles can strengthen and heal. The splints will be on for two hours, then off for two hours, then on for two hours, then off for two hours etc..
Brent is in I.C.U in critical condition in Regina healing well.
Pray for:
- peace for Brent
- healing for Brent's body
- for blood pressure to stabilize
- no more vomiting
- surgery that will happen on Tuesday
- strength for Scot and Carolyn (Cary)
JUST ANOTHER MONDAY IN THE I.C.U. IN REGINA
Brent is resting well. Last night there was a few issues as he was vomiting and there was a little bit of concern for his blood pressure. During the day today he's been resting, watching a movie and spending a little time with Mom and Dad. His blood pressure is good and everything else is well.
Keep hoping.Keep loving.Keep praying.
BRENT BOUNCING BACK
Brent is bouncing back well. Brent is healing well and having some more great moments being alert and responsive. Tonight, Scot and Carolyn (Cary) came back after shift change to find Brently and the nurse playing the Wii. They were playing a game of pool and Brent would set up the game (isn't that great - acting more like a normal teenager :) ).
Carolyn (Cary) is beginning to read the Chronicles of Narnia to Brent and he's enjoying that immensely. Scot and Carolyn (Cary) end each day by praying with Brent in his room. Tonight, Brent was extremely tired which means he'll have a great sleep.
'Little Man' is bouncing back in the right direction. Keep it up Brent - we're cheering for you. :)
Keep hoping.Keep loving.Keep praying.

SPIDERMAN 3 AND A HIGH FIVE
What a good Sunday. Brent is doing well today. There was a moment this morning where the blood pressure was causing concern, but the blood pressure is doing fine now. We all must remember that this healing journey is going to be slow and sometimes full of surprises or setbacks. The important part for us is to support through prayer, encouragement and hope.
Some quick Sunday facts about Brent:
- the dialysis machine is going back on right now for 2 1/2 hours. Brent's potassium level is too high and this is standard procedure
- the blood pressure is getting more stable
- sitting in an inclined position today (with the aid of the bed of course)
Keep praying for the Peterson's. Prayers are being answered and your encouragement is warmly received. Scot and Carolyn (Cary) extend their heartfelt thanks to you all for your interest and prayers for their son, Brent.
Keep hoping.Keep loving.Keep praying.
SAY PLEASE..........AND THANK YOU
- the medication Brent is on is being lowered
- the trickle feed line is off for now as there was some concern for more vomiting
- the swelling is down and Brent is looking good
- splints are being made for his feet to help strengthen the muscles in his legs, ankles, and feet
- Mom and Dad were doing exercises with him and one of them included holdng his foot and have Brent push down - he did this very well
- Carolyn (Cary) was trying to work Brent's iPod for him and she needed some assistance - Brent was able to show her what to do (Brent wanted the volume up - woohoo!)
- Brent's blood pressure was stable on Saturday - answer to prayer
- The dialysis machine was taken off around 12 noon and is still off - Brent's body is coping well without this
- Ready for this? Brent is off the respirator - he is now breathing on his own with the help of the trach

MERCY IS NEW EVERY MORNING
It's evident that God's mercy is being extended to Brent and his family. There is hope that Brent is moving in the right direction. There is hope that small miracles are happening everyday with Brent. There is hope that one day this healing journey will be a distant memory as we witness Brent going back to healthy everyday living. There is hope.
Keep hoping.Keep loving.Keep praying.

DAY 50 OF THE HEALING JOURNEY
DAY 50 of a journey the Petersons didn't choose or expect... Brent is getting ready for his seventeenth surgery. This surgery is routine (can we call surgery routine?). His vitals are looking great, except for, you guessed it - the blood pressure needs to become more stable. The Peterson's are extremely grateful for all your support. Words cannot express their gratitude. Keep hoping.Keep loving.Keep praying. |

SOME FACTS ABOUT "LITTLE MAN" BRENT
- The dialysis machine is being very effective - so far the machine has drained about 35 litres of fluid from Brent's body (that's alot of fluid and pressure for his body) - this is the equivalent of about 35 lbs.
- Before the dialysis - Brent was suffering from alot of pressure with the fluid building up in his body - now he's looking great as the swelling is coming down
- The trickle feed is once again attached - in other words - nourishment is being fed to him and directed to his stomach - his trickle feed is at 10 mL - there is no vomiting
- The Nintendo Wii is now in his room - no he won't be playing video games (not yet anyhow), but the Wii will be used to help Brent exercise and strengthen his body - cool eh?
- The ongoing story of the blood pressure - the blood pressure is still high and and needs to become more stable
- Brently will be very happy tonight - he won't be using Daddy's IPOD anymore - Scot figured out the code to get into Brent's IPOD and now it's working - Brent will be listening to his own music once again

CONCERN TURNS TO CONFIDENCE
There's been some challenges these past few hours. Sometime last night one of Brent's lungs collapsed. The medical staff diligently took proper action and took care of him. There are no side effects other than Brent has been really tired and groggy today. The respirator is back to 35. Brent slept all afternoon . They did an ultra sound on his lungs and everything now looks good. Some anxious moments throughout the day, but now we can have confidence that Brent is once again moving forward in the right direction.
A prayer, "Father, the Lord Jesus Christ has taught me to ask, seek, and knock. I ask You to grant healing to Brent. I seek you for the release of Your power into his life. I am knocking for the blessing of physical and spiritual wholeness in Brent's life (Matthew 7:7)" AMEN
Confidence that healing is happening.
Confidence that God's in control.
Confidence that Brent's in great hands with his parents, family, friends, Regina General medical staff, and God.
Confidence he's moving forward.
Keep hoping.Keep loving.Keep praying.

IPOD MAKES IT BETTER
Another sign of things becoming somewhat normal is Brent was able to listen to music while the surgery was occurring. Brent was wearing headphones that takes away all the noise from the ICU in Regina General. These headphones help to block out the noise and keep his mind active. Today, during the surgery he was able to listen to Scot's IPOD. Wonder if there was any good music on there?
Scot and Carolyn (Cary) are grateful for your prayers and concern.
Keep hoping.Keep loving.Keep praying.

A MOMENT OF JOY AND LAUGHTER....
Sunday, April 12, 2009
WE'RE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER.....
Well, Brent is having a great day. Oxygen level has come down some more (now at 30 %), the dialysis is doing what it should be doing and Brent is moving his arms/hands more. Brently loves having his parents around.
Together....Scot, Carolyn (Cary) and Brent are fighting this great challenge
Together....Scot and Carolyn (Cary) are healing and becoming stronger.
Together....the community is coming together and learning great lessons.
Together....everyone is appreciating the value of life.
Here's some of the goals over the next few days/weeks:
- They're guiding Brent to be more active during the day so he can have better sleep at night
- They will guide Brent through exercises (with arms, legs) that he can do
- They will be playing movies to keep his mind active
- Eventually trying to get Brent to communicate with a laptop
One of the most difficult tasks is expected to happen sooner than expected. Brent will be coming more alert during the daytime. This will lead to Brent eventually asking questions about Katie. Together, Scot and Carolyn (Cary) are discussing how to break the news to Brent. It is very possible that it could happen this week. Together, this will allow the three of them to come closer as a family unit.
Years ago today one of the most important and greatest miracles happened - the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Today, the Peterson family experienced some more small miracles occurring before their eyes.
Together...let's keep praying for greater miracles for Brent.
Keep hoping.Keep loving.Keep praying.

GOOD FRIDAY = DARKNESS/ EASTER SUNDAY = LIGHT
- oxygen level is at 50 %
- blood pressure is more stable tonight
- the dialysis machine is proving very effective
- all the necessary fluids that need to be removed are being removed
- this is causing less pressure on the body
- all the vital organs are experiencing less pressure and are beginning to work better
- his fingers and toes have more wrinkles now which means the swelling is starting to go away
- he now has two nurses watching and treating him
- he is doing therapeutic exercises with assistance from Mom and Dad
- the Doctor wants to ensure his mind is active so starting today they are playing movies and music in his room
Yesterday (Good Friday) was a dark day for Brent and his parents.
Today (Saturday), there is more light shining through this dark suffering.
This Sunday we celebrate Easter - new life. There are significant signs today in Brent of new life. There are also significant signs in Scot and Carolyn (Cary) of renewed energy and hope. Easter is all about the new life and hope found in Jesus Christ. Scot received this quote from a friend today:
"When things look the darkest that's when God's light shines the brightest".
Keep hoping.Keep loving.Keep praying.
Thank you for your prayers.
A WEEKEND OF OBEDIENCE
Brent's vitals are starting to come under control somewhat. Last night a decision was made to put Brent on a dialysis machine (this enables the kidney to function better). He will be on the dialysis machine 24/7 for awhile. The respiratory rate he is on is at 50 % (this improved since yesterday). The blood pressure is not fluctuating as much but there's still some concern here. Overall, Brent is once again taking very small steps in the right direction.
This weekend Christians around the world are reflecting and celebrating the obedience of Christ - the suffering he endured and during it all He leaned on the Heavenly Father to keep focused.
Scot and Carolyn (Cary) are doing their best to keep focused. Yesterday was a tough day for them for several reasons - the reality of Katie passing away hit them hard yesterday - the thoughts or even the possibility of Brent maybe not making it began to hit them as well. This is a huge burden for these two wonderful people to carry. I think you will agree with me that they are doing incredible during this journey. They have strong faith and the Glory of God is shining through them.
Pray for:
- the blood pressure to become stable
- the dialysis machine to be effective and speed up the necessary healing
- for Brent - that he will not be scared or confused
- the medical staff at Regina General
- the pressure and stress to be taken away from Scot and Carolyn (Cary)
Be obedient in making good choices this weekend to honor Katie's life. Enjoy your family members and friends in a new way.
Keep hoping.Keep loving.Keep praying.

BRENT'S SITUATION NOT SO HOT
Brent is still doing about the same. Good news - the dialysis went very well. Bad news - Brent's blood pressure is not doing well or cooperating. It is becoming dangerously too high. Brent is still throwing up even though there is nothing more to throw up. His body is going through alot today.
Thank you for your comments and prayers. This Friday is a difficult day for the Peterson's. I think all parents can understand and relate to what I am saying - you want the absolute best for your children. The Peterson's are having moments of exhaustion and feeling somewhat helpless. Yet, Scot and Carolyn (Cary) are incredibly committed to their son and are at that hospital many hours a day. They are about to enter week seven of their new reality with Brent being in rough shape.
Let's continue to pray for and encourage this great family.
Keep hoping.Keep loving.Keep praying.
PRAYER ALERT FOR BRENT....
NOT SO GOOD FRIDAY FOR BRENT AND HIS PARENTS:
The best way to say the following is there are alot of things not going well at the moment. According to the parents they are so overwhelmed that they don't see the light at the end of the tunnel anymore. They are holding on to hope/faith, but they are realizing that there may be other plans for Brent.
Some of the concerns of the moment are the same as before, however some new ones are compounding the situation. The kidneys are shutting down - at this moment they are trying to hook up a dialysis machine to Brent. The greatest fear here is that there might be lung collapse. There are other medical things going on, but we'll leave it at that.
You, as family, friends, coworkers have been extraordinary in your support for this couple. They really need to hear some cool encouragment and love from you all. More than ever before there is a fear that Brent may be slipping away. If you could find the time to send a message again on this blog that would be very cool.
We love the Peterson family greatly. Let's hold on to hope and pray.
Keep hoping.Keep loving.Keep praying.
BRENT IS IN SURGERY 15 RIGHT NOW....
Keep hoping.Keep loving.Keep praying.
A GOOD FRIDAY THAT WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN....FOR DIFFERENT REASONS
This beautiful, sunny Good Friday morning the Peterson's are awaken to more news about their son. Brently's conditon is much the same, however he is vomiting quite often and his oxygen level on the respirator has been raised. There will be much discussion today amongst medical staff about what action needs to be taken and when.
Why do we pray? We know the Heavenly Father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit are near with us on this journey. The bible instructs us to persevere in situations of suffering.
Scot, Carolyn (Cary), and Brent are strong followers of the teachings of Jesus and the bible. John 3:16 says, "This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life" (The Message).
They are not alone on this journey - great support from their faith, from their family, from their friends, and from their church.
We'll keep you posted...thank you for your prayers.
May you reflect today on the actions of Christ on the cross and sense great peace.
Keep hoping.Keep loving.Keep praying.
BRENT'S CONDITION REMAINS THE SAME...

Because of your unfailing mercy and compassion, we plead that You will release Your healing power in Brent's life. We ask that You would heal Brent as a concrete expression of Your mercy and compassion (2 Corinthians 1:3, Lamentations 3:22-23)". AMEN

- Carolyn (Cary) is dropped off and goes to see her son Brent
- Carolyn (Cary) begins to read a teen devotional book to Brent
- Scot finally finds a parking spot and makes his way to Brent's room in a good mood (cause we all know that Scot's always in a good mood!)
- Brent is the same as last night - resting, blood pressure low, 25 % oxygen on respirator
- Scot walks in talking and Brent hears his Dad's voice
- Suddenly, Brent's eyes open wide for awhile and he looks at his Dad
- That made Scot's day so far - being able to look at his son's eyes and have Brent looking back
- The healing journey continues..........
Keep hoping.Keep loving.Keep praying.

TO THE LEFT, TO THE LEFT
A cool thing happened today that could earn Brent a new nickname....Cool hand Brent. Mom and Dad were in the room with their son. Brent's eyes were closed, but he was being responsive. Carolyn (Cary) was leaning over on Brent's left side and then Dad says, 'Brent, if you lift your hand a little bit to the left you can get your mom'. Then, Scot said to Brent, 'I bet you can't get Mom' and slowly Brent tried to lift his left hand to touch his Mom's face. Brent is having responsive moments.
Pray for healing of the abdomen...
Pray for Brent to breathe on his own......
Pray for strength for Scot and Carolyn (pray for protection from colds etc)....
Pray for the Regina General Medical staff....
Keep hoping.Keep loving.Keep praying.....
JUST ANOTHER MONDAY MORNING MERCY
God's mercies are new every morning. Brent is resting and everything is still calm. Doctors came by on their day off to see how he was doing. Through all this resting his body is healing.
Continue to pray for full healing for Brent.
Scot and Carolyn (Cary) are taking the time to go through all the cards and blog responses - they are feeling very encouraged.
Thank you for your caring and your support.

LITTLE MAN LOUNGING
Scot and Carolyn (Cary) had a good rest last night and during the day today. This is day thirty eight of a journey they never expected. They are carrying themselves very well. Some of the pictures I will never forget so far from this journey:
- the Saturday morning after the accident when Scot wouldn't let go of Pastor Marvin's or my hand
- the meeting when we had to talk about the strategy of what to do with Katie while wondering how Brent is doing
- the private family funeral on Friday March 6 - the stories of Katie
- the first time seeing Brent in the hospital
- the exciting news of how Brent was healing
- then Sunday March 29 things taking a turn for the chaotic
- Tuesday night - getting a phone call when a calm Scot asked me how I was doing - knew right then we were in for a stressful night
- Tuesday night March 31 - when Scot told me on the phone it was the Aorta - Pastor Angela and I decided we needed to go and be with them
- The wonderful stories we heard and pictures we saw that night while waiting for the surgery to stop
- The look of fear and anxiety in a set of parent's eyes everytime the OR doors opened
- The sense and look of relief when the doctor came and said everything went as smoothly as it could - Brent was still here and that was cause for celebration
- The moment when Scot, Carolyn (Cary), Pastor Angela and myself entered the room to see Brent after the surgery - we just stood there, quietly, prayed, we wept and yet through all this stress there was a sweet presence of the Holy Spirit - God giving us a big hug letting us know He's there
- Wed night - Thurs night - long, long day wondering what was going to happen to Brent
- Friday April 3 - declared Katie day and Brent settled down
- The hundreds of people who arrived to celebrate Katie Rose at Elim Tabernacle in Saskatoon
- The hundreds of people who waited in line to console Scot and Carolyn (Cary)
- The hundreds of people who waited in line and received consoling from Scot and Carolyn (Cary) instead
- That Scot and Carolyn (Cary) had strength to stand for two and a half hours to greet people - strength that could only be explained by the power of the Heavenly Father
- at 6 p.m on Friday, April 3 Scot and Carolyn (Cary) made the journey back to Regina to be with and cheer on Brently
We don't understand. We hurt. We continue on in hope. The image of these two parents channelling that strength will affect me for a lifetime.
Continue to pray for full healing for Brent and for his Mom and Dad.
Keep hoping.Keep loving. Keep praying.
BEAUTIFUL SUNRISE, BEAUTIFUL CALM
Brent's life is beautiful and full of wonderful, potential promise. Brent, during Saturday evening and night is still resting well. Things have calmed down and it looks like healing is happening where it should happen. Brent, keep fighting on - you have so much to offer to life and humanity.
This Sunday we give thanks that Brent is in good hands and he is calmly healing.
Scot and Carolyn (Cary) had lots of visitors yesterday and were kept busy with great conversation. Please continue to pray for strength for them and that they will stay healthy so they can visit Brent.
Again, thank you for your prayers.

BRENT'S CONDITION VERY CRITICAL WITH ONE CHANGE
Continue to hope and pray. Continue to send strength and love to these wonderful parents who are on adventure they never wanted.
We're cheering you on Brent! We're cheering you on Scot and Carolyn (Cary)!
Heavenly Father, through the name of Jesus and by the power of your Holy Spirit we pray you would heal Brent and strengthen Scot and Carolyn (Cary).
AMEN.
Keep hoping.Keep loving.Keep praying.
WARNING: BRENT'S CONDITION WORSE
Brent might have been an allergic reaction and his upper right lung has collapsed. They are doing a test where they are going to put a scope with a camera in to see what is happening with the upper respiratory. There is great concern at this moment with this latest turn of events.
Scot and Carolyn (Cary) are not alone - they are with friends tonight in Regina awaiting what is going on with their son.
Please pray and if you can, please leave a response of encouragement to this blog entry.
Keep hoping. Keep loving. Keep praying.
We'll keep you posted.........
THOSE UNEXPECTED LIFE CHANGES..........
Brent's condition since this afternoon has not changed much. His situation is very critical and he is very sedated. This makes it hard for mom and dad to leave Regina to come to Saskatoon to celebrate Katie's life. However, they have good friends in Nicole and Jonathan who will be with Brent as they come to Saskatoon.
Soon, Scot and Carolyn (Cary) will be making their way to Saskatoon. Their friend Norm will be driving them so they can rest their weary bodies during the ride. They will be arriving tonight (thursday night) and will spend the evening at their home. Tomorrow, April 3 they will get up and surrounded by family, friends say farewell to their beautiful Katie Rose.
The memorial promises to be a time of great celebration reflecting the vibrant attitude of Katie. Katie loved music, Stargate, animals, and great times with friends. We are so thankful to know her, but the hardest thing is feeling that she's gone way too soon.
You are invited to celebrate her life on Friday, April 3 at Elim Tabernacle in Saskatoon at 1 p.m.
Scot and Carolyn (Cary) are on the way to celebrate their daughter. After the eventful day on Friday they will return to Regina by 8 p.m Friday night to be with their "Little Man" Brent. Pray for safety, protection, and peace for them.
Those unexpected life changes...who would have thought of these sudden changes.
Through this all our Heavenly Father is nearby offering comfort and hope through His Holy Spirit.
To Brent - have a great sleep tonight and heal well
To Katie - we miss and love you - Friday is for you :)
Keep hoping. Keep loving. Keep praying.

CRITICAL STATE LINGERING FOR LITTLE MAN
"Little Man" Brent is putting up a big fight in the greatest challenge for his life yet. Here's what's happening today:
- Brent has a fever and is quite flushed
- his heart rate is still way too high
- blood pressure is just ok - needs to become lower
- the infection - has grown some since last surgery so they are trying new antibiotic
- the fluid around lungs is slowly disappearing
- there is challenges with the liver at the moment
- there is alot swelling in the leg where they took the last vein for the aorta operation
- this is Brent's twelfth surgery in 33 days
- this is Brent's fourth aorta surgical repair
Brent is in seriously CRITICAL CONDITION. However, everyday there are small miracles happening. The latest - Brent's kidneys started shutting down earlier today, but now they are working. When the doctor looked at it and did the tests he called it a miracle.
Let's keep hoping. Let's keep loving. Let's keep praying.

BRENT'S SITUATION IS VERY SERIOUS
Life for Brent right now is a huge battle. The surgery last night took a huge toll on his body. This afternoon he's now having challenges with his heart rate and there is fluid around his lungs. We know you are already praying but right now life is critical for Brent and more than ever before he needs a supernatural miracle.
You are being a wonderful support system for two incredible, engaging parents - Scot and Carolyn (Cary). We are asking you to be a greater support by writing a note on this blog. PLEASE DO NOT TEXT THEM or CALL at this time as they are tired and focusing all their energy reserves on the activities around Brent. Scot and Carolyn (Cary) read your blog responses over and over again as their source of healing. If you have been following this blog I am asking you today to leave a response - whether it be just your name...a one sentence note...or something longer or We love you...etc...Please leave a response. Through that response they receive strength and encouragement.
Brent is in very CRITICAL CONDITION at the moment.....we're cheering you on LITTLE MAN
He needs a supernatural miracle.....
Keep hoping.Keep loving.Keep praying.

BRENTLY'S TOUGHEST CHALLENGEST YET
- internal bleeding began around 7:05 a.m
- Brent went for a CT scan and after this it was decided that Brent needed to go for surgery
- The amazing medical staff at Regina General wanted to do everything possible to avoid surgery - the main reason being that there was just too much risk involved
- Brent's blood pressure began to jump
- It was discovered that Brent's aorta was in danger
- Brent is in critical condition - one of the biggest consequences from tonight's surgery is that Brent is basically back to square one of his healing process
- the process of his abdomen healing is starting all over
- there will be no visitors accepted for a long time (how long we don't know)
The results:
- Brent is heavily medicated and sedated
- The Doctor is hopeful yet at the same time expressed concern at the challenges he faces right now
- This is the fourth surgery on the aorta - they used one large vein this time from his leg to do the graft
- There was concern that his kidneys would shut down tonight due to the time allowance for the surgery - the kidneys are fine
- The total surgery time was five and a half hours and the doctor expressed that they used every moment to do what they needed
- The healing process begins again
The risk of the surgery tonight was a big one. The weight upon the shoulders of Scot and Carolyn (Cary) is undescribable. Sitting here with them tonight I observed the commitment and love these parents have for their son, Brent. Little Man is very much loved by these two excellent parents. The parents attentively watched their son being wheeled back into the MPICU. One wonders the longing they are feeling to just go, wrapped their arms around Brent and give him a great big hug.
In the midst of pain and suffering there are beautiful moments. Tonight, Pastor Angela and myself were priveleged to witness some of these moments - a parent's love demonstrated for a child, listening to cool stories of Brent and watching this married couple find some moments to quietly hope and laugh together.
Here's the bottom line....Scot and Carolyn (Cary) believe in the Heavenly Father. His light is strengthening them for this journey. There are some tough challenges ahead for Brent but like the Doctor said tonight - "Let's be hopeful...let's be praying"
Tonight, another beautiful moment - after the Doctor and the nurse left there was a quiet moment and a sense of relief. After listening intently they know that for the next few days that this is Brent's way of saying I am going to take my time to rest and heal. Go celebrate Katie. Celebrate the life and good choices she made. The next few days are for remembering Brent's sister, Katie.
Keep hoping. Keep loving. Keep praying.
Scot and Carolyn (Cary) thank you so much for your love and prayers.
BRENT PRAYER ALERT...................
Keep hoping. Keep loving. Keep praying.
Thank you for all your concern and love for the Petersons.
