HEARTBREAKING QUESTIONS

PARENTS: please do not let your child or teen read this alone

If you are a child or teenager please do not read this entry unless a parent is with you. Thanks.

Life is full of wonderful moments that make our hearts full and alive. Many families this long weekend are planning fun things like camping trips, shopping at the mall, or just hanging out together relaxing watching movies. The Peterson family are entering this long weekend with hearing heartbreaking questions and experiencing draining uncertainty.

If you are planning to visit the Peterson family this weekend you will need to know a few things. You are always welcome to visit, but please understand that the next few days are critical that Brent builds up his strength. The next surgery, his twenty fifth, to once again repair his aorta is the weightiest and most risky challenge so far in this journey. This surgery can produce potential outcomes that might not serve the best interests of Brent. Also, there is a high probability that the aorta could burst before the surgery. Therefore, if you do plan to visit you might not be able to see Brent or if you do it will be only for a brief moment. Scot and Carolyn (Cary) are hoping you can understand this as they want Brent to be as strong as possible.

The hearts of these two wonderful, committed parents are breaking for their son. The meeting with the medical team produced questions they were hoping not to hear or face. Brent is in a very critical state. He will need an incredible supernatural intervention. Pray for:
  • wisdom and strength for Scot and Carolyn (Cary)
  • wisdom for the amazing Regina medical team
  • healing and protection for Brent

Brent's spiritual heart condition is thriving. He lives for Jesus and according to the values found in the bible. Brent's faith gives to him hope for life on this earthly world and eventually hope for life eternally. Brent's physical heart may be broken at the moment, but his spiritual and emotional heartbeat is contagious affecting everyone who knows him. We love you Brent and we're cheering you on.

(Brent's surgery date is currently being discussed and organized by the medical team..when the date is confirmed we will let you know)

"The Lord directs our steps, so why try to understand everything along the way."

Proverbs 20:24 (NLT Bible)

Faith and Courage.

Keep hoping.Keep loving.Keep praying.

(Scot and Carolyn (Cary) read the blog responses every night. At the end of your comment if you could kindly leave your name, and if you like, where you reside that would be greatly appreciated....your prayers and support are gratefully appreciated by the Peterson's.)

  7. Psalm 94:18-19 (New Living Translation)
I cried out, “I am slipping!” but your unfailing love, O Lord, supported me.
When doubts filled my mind, your comfort gave me renewed hope and cheer.

You don't know me but I've been following your story and praying for you. My heart aches for all that you've been through and continue to go through. My prayer is that you would know and the Lord's unfailing love supporting you and that you would experience renewed hope and even joy this weekend.

    God hath not promised
    Skies always blue
    Flower-strewn pathways
    All our lives through

    God hath not promised
    Sun without rain
    Joy without sorrow
    Peace without pain

    But God hath promised
    Strength for the day
    Rest for the labor
    Light for the way
    Grace for the trials
    Help from above
    Unfailing sympathy
    Undying Love.

My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Brent is a fighter, and as bleak as things may seem, the one thing that kept me going through the set backs with my fiance was the fact that he was not giving up on me, and I could not for a second under estimate his strength and desire to stay with his family, and with that I vowed to always stay positive and believe that he could keep fighting and not ever give up on him or doubt him. Brent is a true fighter, his strength and willingness to push through this all is amazing, and Brent and Carolyn you are truly amazing parents. My fiance's stay in ICU was only 30 days and those 30 days felt like an eternity, for you two to be there by his bedside and wait to hear the news every single time and pray and not lose faith is an amazing sign of the strength and commitment you have.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you, and especially with Brent as he rests for this journey.

  11. Life is so precious....so precious:) My husband made a statement yesterday that gave me pause to think. "We are not human beings on a spiritual journey, we are spiritual beings on a human journey." I have never met you but I am certain that this journey is headed in the right direction. God's in this and He never breaks a promise. Our God is Mighty...I'm in prayer for you and your whole family. Keep the faith, it can move mountains!! In Christ.... Christine, Moose Jaw

  12. As a father of two children very similar ages to Katie and Brent, my heart cries for you through this unimagineable time you are enduring. Our God has used Brent in so many ways, touching people around the globe. Friends have emailed me saying they are praying for you all. These friends are the last I thought would be admitting to praying. Praise God!! Now we Pray to our Healing Father to surround Brent with Angels and protect him through these delicate times ahead, to give him strength and hope and peace. For the medical team we pray for wisdom, guidance and confidence. For Scott and Carolyn have trust in the Lord, be assured He is in control. We Pray for stength and Faith, feed off His word and encourage each other.
    Always Hoping, Loving and Praying.

  18. There is Love
    That came for us
    Humbled to a sinner’s cross
You broke my shame and sinfulness
    You rose again victorious

    Faithfulness none can deny
    Through the storm
    And through the fire
There is truth that sets me free
Jesus Christ who lives in me

    You are stronger
    You are stronger
    Sin is broken
    You have saved me
    It is written
    Christ is risen
Jesus You are Lord of all

    No beginning and no end
You’re my hope and my defense
You came to seek and save the lost
You paid it all upon the cross

When I think of all this, I can not help but praise you.

I pray that you will find encouragement during this time. God WILL carry you through. "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding."

I know that our God gives us what we need to get thru the day we are in. I pray that He not only gives you the strength but the peace that you need as well. I pray that you hold on to each other and your families thru this time.

Lord I pray for your supernatural strength and wisdom when Scot and Cary are facing decisions today and each day. Above all I pray for your will to be done in this situation. Only you know the plan for this family. I pray that we all lean on you to know what to say, do, or write to encourage and lift up Scot and Cary today. I pray that you are preparing hearts now for the conversations that will be spoken in the future. Heavenly Father, again I pray for your will to be done in Brent's life. In your precious Holy Name, Amen.

  27. I am praying for you guys with every breath that I take, hoping that Brent can tell that I am praying for him and that my hope is remaining in Christ our Lord. Uncle Scot and Auntie Car, you are amazing and wonderful. I love you both so much, I hope you know that. I don't believe that God could ever be more proud of you than he has been over the past few months. Every week at youth group, Tara and I spend at least a little bit of time together and she is always reminding me to look at the bright side of things and always remember that Brent WILL get better and that when he does, God will use him in amazing and powerful ways. I believe in Brent with all my heart, but more than that I believe in Jesus and his healing power.
Lord God you know exactly what is going on in Brent's life right now God. And I know that you are sitting with a threaded needle in your hand, just waiting to sew Brent back together God. You can repair the lives of Uncle Scot, Auntie Car, and Brent faster than I can finish praying. I believe that you WILL heal Brent and that you have huge amazing plans for this extraordinary young man. I pray that you will reach down and wrap Uncle Scot, Auntie Car, and Brent in your loving arms and never let them go. Give them the peace that is past understand and impossible to doubt because it is so wonderful it could only possibly have come from you. Never let them forget all the people that love them and are praying with every breath they take for their safety and comfort. I pray that you will stretch out your hand and touch Brent's body right now God. You have the power to heal him whenever you want to. You said 'Ask and it will be given, seek and you will find, knock and the door will be opened'. We are asking you to heal this young man. We are seeking your comfort. We are knocking on the door of heaven. Open the flood-gates of heaven and let your love and mercy flow over the earth. 'Do not shut, do not shut, do not shut, the heavens. But open up, open up, open up our hearts. Rain down, all around the world we're singing, rain down, can you hear the earth is singing, rain down, my heart is dry but still i'm singing, rain down, rain it down, on me'. Pour your holy spirit down on Brent and his family Oh God. We love you so much and we pray this in you wonderful holy name, Amen.

Love you so much Uncle Scot, Auntie Car, and Brent!

  28. Dear Lord Jesus, we come to You again humble and broken people in need of Your help. We can't do this on our own, we need You, our healer, to intervene and heal Brent. You can save him and heal him, and Lord, we ask You, we beg You to work in him and heal his body. Wipe away the infections, close the holes, steady his blood pressure. Lord God, allow this young man to get better and rejoin the life of a teenager. Please guide and comfort Scot and Carolyn, give them Your peace and mercy. And give them all rest, Lord, much needed rest. We ask these things in Your powerful name, amen.

  39. Reading these comments are such an encouragement to me and I pray that they are to you as well. It reminds me that we are truly a family - we may not see each other on a regular basis or live on the same continent, but we share the same Heavenly Father and that makes us family.

Scot & Car, this morning as I lay praying I had such a sense of God's presence in your lives and a confidence that each step of this journey has been, and continues to be, in God's hand. He will make something beautiful come out of this situation, in His time. I'm praying for an immediate healing but trusting that He knows best.

I know you are wearing yourselves out being strong for Brent, but I'm reminded of this:

"When you are weak, He is strong",

    "Perfect love casts out fear",

"Come to me all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest", and

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everyting, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus."

I'm not claiming to have any answers, and I have prayed and asked and wept before God more than ever before, but I stand on His word and I know you are as well.

I pray that in the midst of this situation, you would know God's rest and peace, and that you would allow His perfect love to cast all fear aside.

Always praying, always trusting, always believing, always loving.

  48. Dearest Carolyn, Scot, and Brent
My heart aches for you again as you face uncertain days and tough decisions. God is faithful and I believe He will heal Brent.
Philippians 1:6 TLB "God who began the good work within you will keep right on helping you grow in His grace until His work is finally finished on that day when Jesus Christ returns." I recently read this in a Chuck Swindol book: He states 'This is a promise at the root of God's agenda. Think of it as a guarantee. The One who started the "good work within you" won't leave the task unfinished. At the end of the course God won't get an "incomplete". FOR SURE, HE WON'T FAIL. God has definitely begun a good work in and through Brent, as this blog attests, uniting believers around the world to lift all of you up to the throne of heaven. God is not finished yet. Brent, you are a fighter, so rest now in God as He prepares and strenghtens you for the days ahead.
For all of you, a favorite song by Stephen Curtis Chapman: His Strength Is Perfect

    I can do all things
Through Christ who gives me strength
But sometimes I wonder what He can do through me
    No great success to show
    No glory on my own
Yet in my weakness He is there to let me know.

    Chorus
His strength is perfect when our strength is gone
He'll carry us when we can't carry on
Raised in His power the weak become strong
    His strength is perfect
    His strength is perfect

    We can only know
    The power that He holds
When we truly see how deep our weakness goes
    His strength in us begins
When ours comes to an end
    He hears our humble cry
    And proves again

    His strength is perfect
    When our strength is gone
He'll carry us when we can't carry on
Raised in His power the weak become strong
    His strength is perfect
    His strength is perfect.

I love and miss you guys so much. Carolyn, Scot, and Brent, you are such amazing examples of God"s faithfulness, love and grace. Everyone who knows you or has heard of your journey has been changed. God will not abandon you in this your greatest hour of need. Be encourged that you are loved, and lifted up in prayer with every breath I take.

  56. Scot, Carolyn, and Brent,
I have been following your journey since the beginning and I can't imagine what you are going through.I have cried with you and rejoiced with you,and I have never prayed like I have been for the last 80days. Carolyn, when my son Colton was born,I had no idea that newborns could cry for so long,I was exhausted. You came over for coffee ,you took Colton wrapped him tight in his blanket and then you held him. The crying stopped. I wish I could return the favor and help Brent.I am praying for your family morning, noon, and night.

May you feel the Lord's incredible arms wrapped around you as you walk through this and know how much He loves and cares about you and that He sees each tear that falls and the brokness that you feel.

Continuing to pray for Brent as he goes through all of this.

  60. Scot, Cary, Bub,
I'm just heading off to sleep now. And as usual, like so many others, checking this blog is the last thing I do before laying my head on the pillow.
I will fall asleep praying for you all, and when I awaken in the night and can't sleep, which has been a usual occurance since Feb 27, I will pray until I fall back asleep. Just wanted to tell you how much I love you guys. We're all in this together. And we're all gonna get through this together, by God's grace.
    Love always,
    Dean

I Will Rise by Chris Tomlin

    There's a peace I've come to know
Though my heart and flesh may fail
There's an anchor for my soul
I can say it is well

    Jesus has overcome
    And the grave is overwhelmed
    The victory is won
He is risen from the dead

And I will rise when He calls my name
No more sorrow no more pain
I will rise on eagle's wings
Before my God fall on my knees and rise
    I will rise

    There's a day that's drawing near
When this darkness breaks to light
    And the shadows disappear
And my faith shall be my eyes

    Jesus has overcome
    And the grave is overwhelmed
    The victory is won
He is risen from the dead

And I will rise when He calls my name
No more sorrow no more pain
I will rise on eagle's wings
Before my God fall on my knees and rise
    I will rise

And I hear the voice of many angels sing
    Worthy is the Lamb
And I hear the cry of ev'ry longing heart
    Worthy is the Lamb

  65. Dear Cary Scot and Brent,

I wish I had words to express or love and care. We are so far away. When I was 17 I had a motor cycle accident and when I came to conciousness they had put 37 stitches in my face. Friends and family came to wish me well. But what is that compared to what you are facing together. We hope and pray for Brent Strength for each new day. Cary and Scot we hope for you faith and love to endure. I admit I don't understand these kinds of sufferings but our hearts go out to you with our love.

We ask for Brent to get up and be healed in Jesus Name...right now I stand in the gap for this young man Lord, that you would reach down and touch him in the most amazing way..give wisdom to the doctors and nurses and above may your name be glorified...please Jesus we cry out to you right now. We love and trust you Lord..whatever the enemy throws at this family may you hold them. My tears are flowing for this family...but I pray they will be turned to tears of joy! 70. Dear Brent, Carolyn & Scott

You have been in our thoughts and prayers everday. When we are at our weakest is when we find our greatest strength. Brent, you keep getting stronger, Stephanie belives in you and knows how strong you are. Stephanie is missing you both giving the "peace wave" to each other. Stephanie will be coming to Regina next weekend (Saturday) to visit you and give you the "peace wave" if you are able to have visitors. Brent, you keep healing and getting stronger.
You are all in our prayers and we pray for continued healing.
