DAY 90 HAPPENINGS IN THE ICU AT REGINA GENERAL

Well, it's a birthday day Brent never expected, however the celebration of Brent continued today. Too bad his favorite soccer team, Man U, lost the game today. Here's the latest on Brent:
  • the renal profusion scan showed that the left kidney is working better than the right one at the moment (Brent is not on dialysis)
  • the blood flow is not at one hundred percent yet in the newly installed artificial artery, but in a few more days it should be and with that the right kidney should be more active
  • blood pressure is relatively stable today
  • Brent's legs and bowels are swollen still from last week's surgery - once the swelling goes down, the medical staff want Brent to get his legs moving again (his right leg is very tender as that is where they made one of the incisions from last week's surgery)
  • Doctors still have no idea what is causing the seizures
  • Brent is vomiting often - it's important for the vomiting to stop because he will be able to have soft foods again
  • the CT of the abdomen showed that everything operated on there last week is looking great
  • Brent went for surgery twenty eight today and everything went fine

Please continue to pray for full recovery for Brent. Thank you for your prayers.

Keep hoping.Keep loving.Keep praying.

Glad to hear those tests are completed. It's not surprising that Brent has been fearful about this day and its events. We continue to pray Brent for your complete healing in your body, and mind, and pray for your Mom and Dad too that they would experience God's peace and protection.

  5. Happy Birthday, IRONMAN BRENT. We are so grateful that the scans show that things are on the right track. We are praying that this an indication that full recovery will take place and that on your 16th birthday, you will have a HUGE party. Be sure to get your learners driver's licence right away so that your dad (and mom) can have fun practicing with you around the city - parallel parking etc!
Rest well tonight, Brent! And may your parents also have a peaceful evening and sleep.
You are incredible people! A living example of God's promise that "as your days are, so shall your strength be"!
Always in our prayers. Don & Marg - Saskatoon.

  8. In the last 90 days the entire MPICU staff have fallen in love with a handsome, brave and incredibly strong young man that some on this blog refer to as "Brently." We have watched with bated breath while he goes for surgery after surgery, we call from home on our days off and we hold this child and this family close to our hearts. Prayers and love must be the miracles that are keeping this family and Brent strong because even with medical odds against him he continues to fight. Thank you to Scott and Carolyn for the treats and the most of all for the smiles. Your strength and courage are awe inspiring and it has not gone unnoticed. You are amazing parents and Brent is as lucky to have you as you are to have him.

  10. Okay, the above post from Lori, RN, made me cry. Thank you to the doctors and nurses who love my family and are fighting for Brent's life as much as he is. I am Scot's sister, in Vancouver, and to the medical staff at Regina General, I just want to tell you how grateful our family is. Scot and Cary share many sentiments of how great you all are, and how compassionate, loving, and caring you all are. Cary has mentioned to me more than once that you are their ICU Family. Thank you for your exceptional care that you are giving my favourite nephew. I guess that's all I wanted to say. God bless you all.

  19. Hey Brent!
Do you know how much you are loved??? I read the messages on this blog, and I'm overcome with emotion!!

I was looking through the farewell book from last year, and I noticed you in several of the pictures. You are such a positive and accepting young man. You always were more than a pleasure to work with, and every day I continue to be awed by your strength.

I can't even imagine how difficult this must be for you at times, but I know you have the will to make it through and be bigger, stronger and better than ever. You are my hero! I love you lots!

God bless your medical team! It's comforting to know that they can be the support you and your parents need when your friends and family might not be able to be there. Thank-you, thank-you, thank-you MPICU staff!

Peace and continued strength be with you all!
