FEAR FACTOR

The last couple of days have been very slow going for Brently. Brent is recovering and healing at a very slow pace. Some cool things that are happening:
  • Brent is no longer on the ventilator
  • Brent is learning to breathe on his own again - he's on the trach mask with no oxygen
  • The NG tube should be coming out soon (hopefully - this means Brent can start having soft foods again like yogurt, ice chips, smoothies from Booster juice etc)
  • the vomiting has eased - hopefully this means the nausea has stopped
  • the other night, Mom and Dad read him the birthday wishes from the blog
  • Brent was also shown the video made for him by Tara featuring Toby Mac (rap artist)

Today, Brent will be going for his twenty ninth surgery to focus on healing that abdomen area. Yesterday, Brent did not want his Dad to leave his side. Scot ending up having dinner around 10 p.m. last night. Brent expressed that he was fearful and just wanted Dad with him. We pray and hope that this fear will subside. Brent has demonstrated remarkable courage and is defying the odds in persevering this healing journey. Brent is also having moments of being "down". Pray that Brent will feel more encouraged and at peace.

Scot and Carolyn (Cary) are doing the best they can. They are tired from this journey and in some ways just want life back to normal again. Pray for their emotions and physical bodies to be strengthened.

Keep hoping.Keep loving.Keep praying.

  1. So glad to hear that things are progressing favorably allbeit slowly. Sometimes slow is better. We know you are tired and long for rest and normality but maybe normal will be different than ever before and you are slowly being prepared for that. We want you to know that we DO keep praying and hoping and loving as long as you need us to do that. What else can we do. No one can do it like you can.

  4. "Blessed be the Lord, Who bears our burdens and carries us day by day, even the God Who is our salvation! Selah (pause, and calmly think of that)! Psalm 68:19 (Amplified)

On this beautiful sunny day in Edmonton, I am thinking about you continuing to be there to love and support the healing process for Brent. May God continue to give you the energy and determination to stay focused on the road to restoration.

  8. Wow Brent, once you get better, we're sure you'll either become a doctor or never want to be in a hospital again!!! hang in there, hold on to your parents. We are so glad they are there for you. We will pray that your fear will subside as you feel stronger and that you will also take the time to grieve and be who you need to be at this time. We love you and are pulling for you.
Scott and Cary, Well done. We are praying for you too. We still cannot fathom the difficult nature of all you are experiencing. But we know there is a plan and we will be praying along side of you through it. Thank you for loving your children, and showing it to all of us.
    God bless,

  9. I am delighted to hear that you are off the oxygen Brent and breathing on your own. I have been singing and claiming the words to the hymn "Breathe on me breath of God, fill me with life anew (substituting in your name and your parent's names)over this last week.

Breathe on Brent, breath of God,
    Fill him with life anew,
That He may love what Thou dost love,
And do what Thou wouldst do.

Breathe on Brent, breath of God,
Until with Thee He will one will,
    To do and to endure.

II Thessalonians 2:16,17 "Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself and God our Father, who loved us and through grace gave us eternal comfort and good hope, COMFORT YOUR HEARTS and STRENGTHEN THEM IN EVERY GOOD DEED AND WORD."

Loving, hoping and praying with you,

  11. Bubs, It's Auntie Dean.
Your mom and I were talking tonight and I told her I bet I could tell you something that would make you smile. I know she reads these blog posts to you everyday...and I know you don't feel like smiling much, Brent, but as the days go by, and as you continue to get stronger and healthier as God heals you, the smiles will be more frequent. God will not only heal your body, but He will heal your sadness, too. He really will. Remember, He has promised to NEVER leave you. He is ALWAYS holding you in His hands.
Now....on to something that will bring a smile to your face: hmmmm.....well....what if I tell you that in 3 weeks, Parker will be spending the entire summer in Saskatchewan!!! He will come with Bumma and Papa and he is SO excited to see you, he can hardly sleep. He said he'll read books with you, watch movies with you, and just hang out. Did that make you smile? Even a little bit? I bet he'll even want to spend the night with you and your Dad if that's okayw ith you.
Brent, you are our special boy, and we constantly pray for you. I can't believe my little Bubs is 15, almost a man! Which must make me really old....
If none of this made you smile, then I will give it one last try...I won't embarrass you with childhood stories on this blog, but you must get your Mom to tell you about when you were 2 years old, and the toenail story...hehe....
ALL MY LOVE FOREVER AND ALWAYS...oxooxoxoxox Auntie.
