SAY PLEASE..........AND THANK YOU

Good Sunday morning to everyone!

Brent is doing well. Here are some new facts:

  • the medication Brent is on is being lowered
  • the trickle feed line is off for now as there was some concern for more vomiting
  • the swelling is down and Brent is looking good
  • splints are being made for his feet to help strengthen the muscles in his legs, ankles, and feet
  • Mom and Dad were doing exercises with him and one of them included holdng his foot and have Brent push down - he did this very well
  • Carolyn (Cary) was trying to work Brent's iPod for him and she needed some assistance - Brent was able to show her what to do (Brent wanted the volume up - woohoo!)
  • Brent's blood pressure was stable on Saturday - answer to prayer
  • The dialysis machine was taken off around 12 noon and is still off - Brent's body is coping well without this
  • Ready for this? Brent is off the respirator - he is now breathing on his own with the help of the trach

The healing process in Brent's situation is slow. Today, there is alot of good news and lots to be thankful for Brent's healing. The blog is being updated when more information is being made available. The great part about the blog being updated slowly means that is good news and nothing new to report. Scot and Carolyn (Cary) know this is going to be a long journey and are mentally bracing themselves for the months ahead. They are there for their son and God is there for all three of them.

Mind your manners.....Scot was with Brent and there was a cloth on Brent's forehead. Brent was pulling at the cloth and wanted something done to become more comfortable. Scot started asking questions and figured out through Brent's motions, lip reading that Brent wanted the cloth to be cooled down. Scot grabbed the cloth and asked Brent to say please. Brent can't talk at this moment but he can move his lips. Brent motioned with his lips, 'please'. Scot placed the cool cloth on his forehead and then asked Brent to say 'thank you'. Brent, once again, motioned with his lips, 'thank you'. Small details, yet life changing stuff.

"For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength" (Philippians 4:13, NLT, Bible) - This is where Scot and Carolyn (Cary) are getting their strength to walk through this journey.

Keep hoping.Keep loving.Keep praying.

  2. Who would ever think that your child wanting his iPod volume turned up would bring tears to your eyes??? What giant steps he has taken!!! We are rejoicing with you this Sunday morning-we also have a son Brent and he is getting married in June. His fiance was diagnosed with Hodgkins disease in Aug and went through a series of chemo. She had a scan this week and is officially cancer free!! We too are praising God for His healing and continue to pray for you and your family

  9. This is wonderful news to hear on a Sunday morning! We rejoice with you in the small steps forward and continue to pray for strength, patience and healing for your family. Isn't amazing how we can all get so excited by the small things in life when we take the time to appreciate and are forced to slow down enough to see them - another lesson provided through a very difficult situation and the strength of an amazing young man. Continue to heal Brent - you have a multitude of prayers uplifting you and your family.

  16. To Pastor Rob Clark: has Elim church set up a fund to help with Scot and Carolyn's expenses? -- which must be considerable at this time!
Any information about this would be appreciated.
