- the surgery duration was 14 hours and 15 minutes
- due to the length and type of surgery, Brent will be recovering over the next few days - he will need as much rest as possible
- Brent will be on special medication to control blood pressure and pain
- the medical team inserted an artificial bypass from his shoulder to his leg
- the infected aorta area - it took the medical team three tries to get the aorta sewn off completely
- there was blood loss of 15 litres
- Brent will be on dialysis for awhile
- Brent experienced an allergic reaction that lasted for about sixty minutes - otherwise the surgery went smoothly and everything was stable
- the circulation to the legs will not be as good as the blood flow will be less as the artificial bypass is thinner than a regular blood vessel
- circulation in kids/teens is resilient and will multiply in the next few weeks
- due to the surgery Brent's abdomen area is once again more open and he is back to square one in the healing process
- just before today's surgery, Scot and Carolyn (Cary) were told that Brent's left kidney would have to be removed - at the end of the surgery it was reported that they were able to save and keep the left kidney intact (major answer to prayer)
- Brent is breathing with the aid of a ventilator - he is at 35 % oxygen
Scot and Carolyn (Cary) on this their eighty third day in the hospital carried the weight and pressure of this situation very calmly. Today the strength of God empowered the Peterson's to face this battle. While the nurses transported Brent back to his ICU home, tired parents Scot and Carolyn (Cary) looked at their son. The anesthetist remarked, "He's a tough, little guy." Brent is tough and he is strong. Tonight, with the help of your prayers and God directing him, he overcame a giant obstacle.
The miracles continue in the life of this young man.
Thank you to the incredible doctors and medical team at Regina General.
Thank you to everyone who is praying for the life of this young man.
(due to the extent of this surgery, no visitors will be able to see Brent for at least two weeks - we thank you for your understanding on this matter)
(if you do leave a response to the blog entry, please leave your name, and if you like where you reside)
Keep hoping.Keep loving.Keep praying.

PRAISE GOD ONCE AGAIN!!!
ReplyDeleteA few hours earlier the thought came to check the blog at about midnight. I can see why now, little man was still in surgery. I work nights so will be praying as I work tonight and each night till friday, days Sat. and Sun & Mon"s.
Praying each day till Brent is restored and strength for you Carolyn and Scott. Some day we may meet. We are all God's children and I'll never forget to pray for your family.
Having gone through an accident with our son and knowing the comfort in all the prayers. Many of the things we were told our son would go through after leaving the hospital never happened because our God took care of each serious concern.
Will be praying the same for Brent, that the Lord will look after him day by day.
May God give you both peace and rest now and may you sleep like a baby renewing your strength for another day.

ReplyDeleteThis is the life I've always wanted
To know the prince of peace
to feel my faith restored
as your grace surrounds me
This is the day of new beginnings
this is where my freedom starts
and now death has lost its sting
and Jesus how can I thank you
Just to know, just to know that you lobe me
gives me hope to carry on
What can this world do to me? No, no
Just to know, just to know that you're with me
on all these roads I travelled on
when all I have is gone
I confess my dependence on you
There is a lightness in my laughter
there is a joy inside my soul
my heart is overwhelmed
and Jesus how can I thank you?
Just to know, just to know that you love me
gives me hope to carry on
what can this world do to me? No, no
just to know, just to know that you're with me
on all these roads I travelled on
when all I have is gone
I confess my dependence on you
dependence on you
Just to know, just to know that you love me
it gives me hope to carry on
you're the one thing that I can turn to
just to know, just to know that you're with me
on all these roads I traveled on
you're the one thing that I can turn to
just to know, just to know that you love me
it gives me open to carry on
there's nothing this world can do
I confess my dependence on you
Lord, I confess my dependence on you
dependence on you.
