DAY 100 @ REGINA GENERAL HOSPITAL ICU

Brently is facing these enormous challenges with great courage. He has endured many surgeries and medications. He is still looking at the same walls in his ICU "Penthouse". Today:
  • Brent had his vac dressing done this morning - doctors are generally pleased but want the swelling to go down
  • a new trach (which is done monthly) was put in today as well
  • "Little man" was able to go in the chair again today - yesterday he wanted so badly to be out of his room, but that didn't happen (so he was a little ticked). So, today, Dad was taking him for a ride in the chair outside the room and Brent decided he didn't want to do that (hmm...teenager moment..). So, Scot ended up taking Brent for a ride around the nurses station etc and Brent enjoyed it!
  • Brent is still hoping Mom and Dad are always close by
  • Scot and Carolyn (Cary) - incredibly loving, committed and caring parents!
  • Nurse Christine - was Brent's nurse on day 100, she was also Brent's nurse for the first three days Brent was in the ICU
  • Brent is still in critical condition

A good way to celebrate Brent's perseverance in life. Today, Brently learned that he is getting a new laptop. This laptop will help him download favorite shows, movies etc. Brent will also be able to look at the blog and facebook (note: learning to coordinate the muscles in his fingers and arms will take some time, but at least he can do some things with the laptop). This laptop was made possible by the staff and kids of LBP school). Thank you for your generosity.

Keep hoping.Keep loving.Keep praying.

There is onviously a lot of love in that "penthouse" in the ICU. So many are on this journey with you....if only in our hearts!

  2. A new laptop! That's awesome. I am sure Brent will love that. What teenager wouldn't?!
It is heart warming to know there are so many generous people in ICU and at Lester B.
I hope all the other donations and fundraising that has been done will help the family out as well. When tragedy strikes, it is wonderful how so many family members, friends and strangers pull together. It's hard for any of us to totally understand what the family is going through. We don't know finances, what insurance they have etc. Then thoughtful people put their heads together and do what they can to help the famiy in as many ways as we can. Some with encouraging messages on this blog that has kept up to date on Brent and his parents. Some by helping look after the Peterson house and yard, others with monetary donations and then there are the people that know the Petersons the best and
are able to see them in person to give the comforting hugs and just be there for them. To all that have helped the Petersons with anything....thank you for being a caring person to this wonderful family. I am sure that Scot, Carolyn and Brent really appreciate it.

  4. Dear Peterson family,
You are ever close in our hearts and thoughts. We rejoice in every victory and step forward. Our hearts ache with you at every set back and challenge. Your strength is amazing as you face the challenges of the day. We know the outcome will be victorious. It is so great to be able to follow your journey and be able to pray specifically for your needs.
Today in Belgium it is a warm and sunny afternoon and the roses are blooming like crazy. Some are in beautiful yards and are so refined elegant, others are neglected in abandoned fields, and yet all are covered with big, fat roses in all shades of yellow, red, orange and pink and white too. God has made so much beauty for us to enjoy. He loves us so much. We hope that you have a beautiful day.
We're believing, loving, praying, and hoping.

  5. hello!
Brent very excited to hear that you are getting a laptop that will help you be independant!
The kids and I talk about you lots and we're cheering for you! The kids were wondering if they'd allow you to have pets in the hospital...they said they'd borrow you one of our big dogs! shucks, wouldn't it be nice to have a big slobering dog around? maybe not. :)
We love you and are praying for you!

  6. I worked at Lester B.Pearson school and can attest to the kindness and generosity of the students and staff; I am not surprised to hear that they would do this. I would also like to add that the atmosphere of the school has a lot to do with the kind and caring community that surrounds it. We were supported by the parents in this community in so many ways and Scott and Carolyn were always there to offer their time and support. Just another way that we see the commitment of loving parents. Scot, Carolyn and Brent, you are in my prayers.

  7. Hey guys,

I am so happy to hear that the laptop is coming to you Brent. Now Carter can stop asking me for my gum! Haha.. seriously there was alot of gum and hats happening around Lester B. to fundraise for the laptop which is amazing.
I know how you feel about the set backs, being frustrated and scared. I have been there numerous times and still am. But you have all your family and friends that keep pushing you forward and helping you keep strong. I bet that if we put everyone together that has been following the blog or know of your situation together we could circle the world. You have reached so many people including Belgium which is amazing. Just remember... "We all love you and are lifting you up when things seem to be overwhelming for you" Trust in God because He is the Almighty.

    Hugs, love, and prayers

    BBBRRREEEENNNNNTTTT!

The computer's coming, my man! It's amazing how your journey has touched so many lives in our building! We had three Hat and Gum Days where the students could pay $1.00 to earn the privilege to wear their hats in school and chew gum!!! It really was successful! You might be touched to know that several students paid not only $1.00 but $5.00 or even $15.00 each day! Once payment had been made, students received a sticker that read "BRENT PETERSON - I'm helping him get his game back!" They were so proud of their stickers - it really brought to light that even the smallest student could do something - they were really empowered in a situation that leaves most of us feeling quite powerless.

As a class, we check the blog often, and daily I'm asked how you are doing! We celebrate your steps forward, and I know that everyone at LBP has a greater appreciation for the delicate nature of our lives. Brent, you are an inspiration to all of us!

You're past 100 days! Remember in your early grades where we would celebrate that with 100 jumping jacks, 100 steps, counting 100 jelly beans and even maybe having 100 licks of a lollipop!!! It really was a celebration! You need to celebrate - I know it's not where you had planned to be, or where you may even want to be now, but you and your parents really have been building faith for possibly thousands of people around the world particularly in the last 100 days! That alone is something worth celebrating!

We love you lots, Brent, Scot and Carolyn! I continue to pray daily for your strength and continued faith and healing! Peace be with you!
